already get that with dropdowns for year of birth... have to scroll more than a few times to get to mine. Seriously, why cant they start low and let the kids [with more energy] scroll down?

So do I and chose the day and month at random, then get confused when I get birthday related messages on random dates. On the upside I can dine for free at least once a month on my 'birthday' at different restaurants.
I generally pick Jan 1st - partly because it's Herself's birthday so easy to remember, partly because I don't have to scroll at all! :laugh:

There are actually way worse solutions than that one :) Programmers imagine the most ridiculous ways to enter a phone number into a form — Quartz[^]
Hmm. No, I'm serious: hmm. Have the user hum, sample the microphone sound input, divvy the frequency range from 80 to 3,400 Hz into 1010-1 intervals, and voila! Easy-peasy. Best of all, this approach doesn't use any screen real estate.

Train them early, forget for the first 5 years in a row and they start doing all the work for you. I have not bought a present (nor received one) in decades, she buys the presents for the kids and threatens me with the job if I dare complain. We are however going out to a restaurant of her choice tonight though, at her prompting.
