Well, if you spell it with the Hebrew character, there's only one 'digit'. Using the English spelling of "pi" gives us two 'digits'. So, I've memorized all of them! :) John

3.14159265358 Which is technically wrong, because rounded it should be 3.14159265359 Oh well. I don't need Pi with that resolution anymore. And would I ever, I'd probably download one of those text files available on some math websites with a gazillion digits and use that. :) 3.14 works for most practical purposes in the home, garden, private workshop etc. :) -- You can all bite my shiny metal ass!

We mostly write stuff out as multiples of π and pray the symbols will cancel out. I do recall having to memorizes pages and pages of logarithms in high school, but fortunately college and the slide rule put an end to that folly.

There's a nice mnemotechnical technique for recalling a lot of digits of pi: How I want a drink, alcoholic of course, after the heavy lectures involving quantum mechanics. The number of letters in each word yield up to 14 digits (not counting the integer part). Joaquín M López Muñoz Telefónica, Investigación y Desarrollo

How do you think they figured the numerical value of pi out to that many decimal places. I remember in school we did an experiment and got pi equal to 3.

The number I posted isn't really that big in digits. But why? For me, it's the number of significant digits on the first pocket calculator I had. (I had to subtract 3.14 to see the remaining digits - clever me!!)

How many digits of pi do you have memorized?

20 (after the decimal) 3.14159265358979323846 I had to memorize it as a part of joining my fraternity :) When you were asked to recite it, you had to say it as fast as your mouth could possibly make the sounds. Any slip ups and you had to funnel a beer and start over. -- Russell Morris "Have you gone mad Frink? Put down that science pole!"
