There's a nice mnemotechnical technique for recalling a lot of digits of pi: How I want a drink, alcoholic of course, after the heavy lectures involving quantum mechanics. The number of letters in each word yield up to 14 digits (not counting the integer part). Joaquín M López Muñoz Telefónica, Investigación y Desarrollo

How do you think they figured the numerical value of pi out to that many decimal places. I remember in school we did an experiment and got pi equal to 3.

The number I posted isn't really that big in digits. Take a look here for the first 10,000 digits: http://www.joyofpi.com/pi.htm[^] Here's some references on calculating PI: http://eveander.com/pi/monte-carlo-circle[^] http://www.planet-source-code.com/vb/scripts/ShowCode.asp?txtCodeId=360&lngWId=3[^] http://www.chinapage.com/math/s9/pi.html[^] Chris Richardson

3.14159 That's all I never needed. If the prof wanted more, he gave it to us. Plus, I always had my trusty HP 48-GX handy. :)

But why? For me, it's the number of significant digits on the first pocket calculator I had. (I had to subtract 3.14 to see the remaining digits - clever me!!)

This is silly, but the digits I know come from a Simpsons episode, where Lisa visits a school for "gifted children". Two girls are playing paddy-cake but sing this: Cross my heart and hope to die These are the numbers that make up pi. 3 point 1415926535897 [fade out...] The bad part is that I can't recite or type the numbers unless I do it at the same speed as the girls were singing it. ;) --Mike-- Latest blog entry: *drool* (Alyson) [May 10] Ericahist | Homepage | RightClick-Encrypt | 1ClickPicGrabber "You have Erica on the brain" - Jon Sagara to me
