One question per day, and/or recaptcha for users less than a year old, or for users under a certain rep points threshold, say 10k points. It would be ludicrous to ask high-rep or long-time members to complete a recaptcha.

There is a rep point threshold, but it's at 500 points. See my post above.

You can't see anything in QA except "black magic" crap at the moment, and they are posting faster than we can remove the dross. The spam filter seems to be ignoring them as well, and it's had plenty of examples! How about a "Protector" only report option: two protectors hit it and the account is closed or suspended and all posts, comments, messages, questions, and answers go to a "quarantine" for staff inspection? It would "clean up" the site quickly (and manually reporting 90+ QA questions for one user takes time) and that should discourage the idiots from posting at all. Yesterday was a tester: "Can we get past the detector?". Today would seem to be "payload day" - and the site looks like a New Age Drivel site because you can't see anything but astrology in QA ...

Most QA questioners would have to ask a question in QA to solve the problem! Hang on ... you may be on to something here ... Hmmm ...

The issue here is that we set the level for people to avoid the spam tester too low - 600 points in some cases. This has been updated (you need Gold status now) so let's see how this goes instead of pushing the issue back onto manual user intervention as the primary guard.

I'd agree that it shouldn't be the first line of defence - the spam detector does a good job nearly all the time. But for days like yesterday when you can't feed the damn things to the detector fast enough, we do need a backup option to discourage them from further posting. If we turn their efforts into a waste of time quickly enough, they will bugger off elsewhere (as we've seen today). And (no offence intended) they tend to be in a time zone when you are all having a well-deserved sleep. You've got a network of protectors in every time zone, so I'm just suggesting you give them a backup tool in the box to prevent floods.

I would add something to your feature... It could be a "only protectors or higher" check box near the red flag to report an account... something like: This user is a massive spammer, if closed, delete {all messages // messages younger than X days} related to this account So we check the box first and then hit the report button. Combining the power of several small hits to make a big spam hammer as CP Staff's

M.D.V. ;) If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about? Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you Rating helpful answers is nice, but saying thanks can be even nicer.
