April Fools Day? I see ... I started a few weeks ago, but haven't moved a project proper yet. Still got VS13, 15, and 17 installed - I'm surprised I never refitted 08 and 10!

You may be thinking of .Net Core. Even still, a new version of VS every two years is two often.

When you pry the gun from my cold dead hands, be careful - the barrel will be very hot. - JSOP, 2013Our shop is evaluating it now. If it looks good then we will move most of our projects to 2019. Should know by next week. From what I have heard so far is that the UI and other functionality is a lot more performant than 2017. I, personally, have not tried it yet.

When you pry the gun from my cold dead hands, be careful - the barrel will be very hot. - JSOP, 2013I installed one of the pre-release versions and tried it out. No issues, but then again I pretty much just stick to vanilla C# programming -- console or WinForm apps.

When you pry the gun from my cold dead hands, be careful - the barrel will be very hot. - JSOP, 2013Yes, I've downloaded VS2019 and have the absolute latest preview -- just installed the update yesterday. I'm an Early Adopter. Actually, I wanted to try out .NET Core 3.x and even though it had been released you couldn't use it in 2017 so I downloaded 2019. I hate the new Project Selection window and the main interface is following that minimalist crap. And, there is intellisense that places odd little light-up comments all through your code. Plus, a number of old Project Templates are gone. But, as it is with all companies, it is what you get. So I may as well get used to it now, I guess.:~

It is not something that is beneficial nor required for development; I do not log in to calc.exe, I do not see why an IDE should be any different. Also bricked my phone again, so am without one for the time. Means I could not create an account even if I wanted to. Why do I need to own a phone to launch a desktop application?

When you pry the gun from my cold dead hands, be careful - the barrel will be very hot. - JSOP, 2013Nope. I downloaded 2017, and some earlier ones. As it turns out, however, I've not much use for them. Since I'll not go beyond Win7, anyway, before going full Linux, I'd more likely be exploring possibilities in that world. As for my paycheck? They hired me for C++ but it's moved to full web apps. With the exception of a recent exception (site access secured by a local .exe and machine registration), I've hardly done anything with a real language for quite a while.

Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason? Or, generally, why must I marry Mickeysoft if I want to buy something from them?

When I was required to do that with VS2017, I just made up a dummy email and password. That pacified the installer so all's good.
