But are ALL citizens armed and trained like the "regulars"?
That was the intent, yes. Of course, back then, females were excluded for general consideration, but that was a cultural norm. Male children of the era were generally proficient in the use of firearms by the time they were 6-8 years old.
Urban Cricket wrote:
You live in a world where the constitution is permanently and continuously violated.
Yeah, and ain't that a shame.
Urban Cricket wrote:
Is that why one of the republicans, don't remember his name suggested to have all kids armed and trained to defend themselves in the schools?
With the level of maturity exhibited by people nowadays, I personally think allowing anyone younger than 18 to own a gun should be prohibited, but that doesn't mean they can't be well trained in the use of said weapons. I was a very competent marksman by the age of 10, yet I never shot up a school/movie theater - it never even crossed my mind to do so. Times were different back then, but that doesn't mean the 2nd Amendment is any less applicable.

Politicians (as a group) are generally the least intelligent people on the planet. It doesn't really matter what party affiliation they might claim (or not claim). They only say what they think their constituents want to hear.

There are many states where people with violent criminal convictions can't have firearms, correct?
True. Most states are like that I believe.
F-ES Sitecore wrote:
So if the constitution doesn't guarantee the absolute right to a firearm, maybe it isn't quite the document you think it is?
It does guarantee the absolute right. The fact that the individual states say a violent felon no longer has the right to own a firearm is not a statement on the 2nd Amendment. What it means is that the states are exercising their 10th Amendment right: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." Furthermore, the Constitution wasn't written to limit what the people could do, it was written to limit what the federal government could do.

So why did you say
Quote:
Cory Booker wants all gun owners to have a federal firearms license. My response - we already do, and it's called the 2nd Amendment
That kind of implies that it does.

It does, but democrats don't generally see it that way, again, because they haven't bothered to actually READ the Constitution. Booker wants a federally issued gun license. Licensing leads to registration, and registration leads to confiscation. Finally, confiscation leads to oppression and genocide. History lays it out for us (if we care to observe the lessons).

They shouldn't HAVE to. He basically told them to shut up and learn how to survive. Good luck with your politicians.

Right, so you twist what is said when it doesn't conform to what you want, just so you can spread hatred. Shame on you.

The 2nd amendment doesn't say you are allowed to have guns in your house. Australia had a gun buyback after a mass shooting. We've had no mass shootings for 20 years. How many does America have a week?

Maybe he wants to put the well regulated in the "well regulated militia". What is well regulated anyway? It could be anything, per example mandating all firearms to be replaced with bubble guns.
It means, first and foremost, that you're only allowed access to guns in the event of needing a militia. A concept that, in 2019, is a joke

Yeah JSOP surely will pop in tomorrow to explain that militias are needed to protect him from the potential liberal commie tyranny. Or something to that effect :)
And clearly his home armoury is a challenge to the ability of the US Army to oppress him

So in your esteemed (yet inconsequential) opinion, what exactly do you think "the right of the people to keep and bear arms" means?

A bunch of cave dwellers in Afghanistan have successfully resisted/repelled both Russia and the US. Tell me again about how the US military can easily overpower unorganized militias with sub-standard weapons.
