I just read an article about their content moderators, and some of the descriptions of content that they moderate, and it's f*ckin disturbing/disgusting what people post. I can't believe that people actually stay at such a job for more than a 20 minutes (and even that's pushing it). God help us if they put AI in charge of moderation. The computers will see/evaluate the attrocities that humans are capable of, and would rightfully decide it isn't worth keeping us around. Facebook moderators break their NDAs to expose desperate working conditions - The Verge[^]

I remember posting the original article back in February. Both articles make for shocking reading. I would rather shovel shit for a living than work somewhere like that. These are the modern day equivalent of a sweat shop.

Like a policeman investigating child porn. Dear oh god, can you imagine how difficult that must be.

At least they get training and support, unlike the "unpaid volunteer" positions one force was recently advertising. West Midlands Police advertises unpaid forensics jobs - BBC News[^] West Midlands Police has advertised the unpaid roles, which involve sifting through "distressing [and] indecent images" :wtf:

I was more commenting ion the content they have to moderate. Maybe they could just stop allowing the posting of videos and images...

But then that would stop the 99% of perfectly legitimate and useful videos and images. I would prefer to see the acts themselves stopped, and action against the perpetrators. As the guy Shawn Speagle said, even after he'd reported one particular video to the authorities, he still kept seeing the same video over and over again. Clearly the authorities failed to act. I would prefer to see the scumbags who commit these acts (including those who film them) found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Exactly, how else would I know people had avocado toast for lunch, were trying on a dress in a dressing room, or know that their child is still alive since the last picture they posted of them five minutes previous?

As would I, but what to do in the meantime? The 1% is what nobody appears to be able to stop, so shut it all down.

I thought there was a direct reference between an account and a real person! I would put effort into a vigilantism to curb this sort of offending. I understand the police are not resourced to do this and I would not trust FB to do anything (they are not doing anything now) but if the account details were made public there may be an opportunity for some payback against these arseholes.
