So long Soapbox

I've never been really active in here, but some discussions were entertaining, to say the least. It was a good sociological research source, confirms me, if I needed it, that people can be stubborn, trolls, supid, argue about trivialities, but also quite funny. It eventually went the same path than anything else concerning freedom and rights : it always get used and abused to the point barriers have to be set to prevent humans being too humans. In this vey case, it is a shutdown. To me, it is an old part of Codeproject that closes. It is surely not an essential one but I've followed this site since almost the beginning, so call me an old fart, but nostalgia, have one on me.
This is what happens when you feed the trolls :( Would rather the trolls were just banned from using the soapbox. Meh.

There really is no good reason to close the soapbox other than Chris does not like the subject matter being debated and discussed. It's a distraction from the core premise of this site, which is technology, coding, etc., not politics and aggressive banter. I suspect others (hamsters, members) have had a role in aiding his decision, but I could be wrong.

Chris is part of illuminati and he suspects posts here can let their secrets out. That is why they are closing it down. Them illuminati are like that. They want to us to think all the problems in life can be sorted by getting rid of VB6 and ranting about MS products. In reality they created VB6 and rant culture to occupy us here while they live a good life. A life where IDE is reasonably sized, a programming language that offers decent features, managers who do not believe in meetings, developers who write good code, bloated Javascript framework are considered useless,.... you get the point. :)

But that's exactly what's being done.

Cutting your nose off to spite your face, or something like that. Actually, we have had a handful of real trolls, and they are not really the problem. I don't look at someone I disagree with as a troll. If you act with malicious intent and are only here to be a trouble maker, then you are a troll. thus not many really. What the real reason is IMHO is that Chris does not agree with a lot of the political content and the heated debates over such content. Therefore, he just closes it down. It is his site, he can do as he wishes.

Precisely.
Social Media - A platform that makes it easier for the crazies to find each other. Everyone is born right handed. Only the strongest overcome it. Fight for left-handed rights and hand equality.

If it wasn't for the trolls (or people feeding them) then there wouldn't be "heated" debates in the first place.

Of course there would be, you cant say all heated debate is trolling. It is just strongly held opinion.

It would be sad if that were the case, embarrassing for him actually. If you cant put your opinion to the test of debate, and have it handle all kinds of disagreement then it isnt very strong!

Except when it is non-constructive and simply meant to provoke a negative reaction, at that point it becomes trolling.

Like Eddie, yeah, I just ignore him when he gets silly like that.

FTFY. It soils the reputation of CodeProject. :suss:
