Cutting your nose off to spite your face, or something like that. Actually, we have had a handful of real trolls, and they are not really the problem. I don't look at someone I disagree with as a troll. If you act with malicious intent and are only here to be a trouble maker, then you are a troll. thus not many really. What the real reason is IMHO is that Chris does not agree with a lot of the political content and the heated debates over such content. Therefore, he just closes it down. It is his site, he can do as he wishes.

      Precisely.

If it wasn't for the trolls (or people feeding them) then there wouldn't be "heated" debates in the first place.

Of course there would be, you cant say all heated debate is trolling. It is just strongly held opinion.

It would be sad if that were the case, embarrassing for him actually. If you cant put your opinion to the test of debate, and have it handle all kinds of disagreement then it isnt very strong!

Except when it is non-constructive and simply meant to provoke a negative reaction, at that point it becomes trolling.

There really is no good reason to close the soapbox other than Chris does not like the subject matter being debated and discussed. It's a distraction from the core premise of this site, which is technology, coding, etc., not politics and aggressive banter. I suspect others (hamsters, members) have had a role in aiding his decision, but I could be wrong.
