Why are people wearing masks in their own cars?

I'm struggling to understand how it can only be a one way mask. Won't let things out but will let things in? Seems strange.
Social Media - A platform that makes it easier for the crazies to find each other. Everyone is born right handed. Only the strongest overcome it. Fight for left-handed rights and hand equality.
One explanation I heard recently is that the authorities wanted to prevent a shortage of PPE for the medical workers, so they set out to convince people that it wouldn't help prevent catching the virus.
The difficult we do right away... ...the impossible takes slightly longer.

Lots of people haven't understood that the mask is not to protect themselves, but to protect other people. If you are not infected yourself, the mask is "essentially inessential". If you are infected, it helps to avoid that you do not spread the virus to others. Like if you were quarantined. We should be aware that you may be infected, and spread the virus, even if you have only very light symptoms. So if you suspect that you might possibly be infected, it might be a good idea to wear a mask, even at home to avoid being a virus fountain at home. My guess is that if you are living in the same household, the virus will unconditionally spread to all of you - masks or not.

Logic would suggest that, but time and again I'm hearing "survivor" stories on the tv where one person in the household almost dies, their partner / children / others in the house don't even get it. Suggests that it's not as communicable as we perhaps think, and that just following basic "normal" hygiene (not coughing in people's faces, washing hands, i.e. basic common sense and good manners) is as much, if not more, important than the whole gloves / masks thing...?

They protect reducing the dispersion and hence the probability of infecting others, but they don't protect by totally avoiding it.

There are some indications that a large fraction of the public may have been corona infected without showing significant symptoms, and have become immune. But then, there are indications that the immunity may be quite short lived; several have been corona sick for the second time. It might very well be that those "not getting it" are indeed getting it, even though they do not show any symptoms. If they leave the house, they may be spreading it to whoever they meet. The other day there was a note in Norwegian newspapers about one lady who was quarantened: On day 13 of her isolation, the first symptoms appeared. Bottom line: We should make premature conclusions.

My theory is that the people that are doing this are doing it to reduce the amount of times they touch their face

Could be. Although I remember reading a study a month or two ago that found people tend to touch their face MORE often when wearing a mask because it is uncomfortable and sweat builds up and itches, etc.

As long as it is their own virus/bacteria, they may touch their face as much as they like. Problems occur only if your hands have been infected with some "foreign" virus, and essentially if that self-touching gives the virus a chance to jump from your fingers over to your nose / lips, from where it can move into your lungs. I guess that the risk of that is not 0%. But the mask makes it less probable that your infected fingers directly touch you nose / lips. Furthermore, I would think that those wearing a face mask are also among the most eager to keep social distance, and to clean their hands many times a day. Funny observation: Lots of grocery stores around here provide antibac at the entrance. Lots of customers use it on their way into the store. Then they grab a shopping cart (they are disinfected often, but for every new customer), and run all over the shop, opening cooler doors and touching shelves. Then they leave the store bringing along anything that they might have picked up on the visit. I never see a single one using the anticbac after the visit to the store! Sure, if you are infected yourself, it will reduce the risk of you spreading it to others. That's a good thought. But if you know that you are infected, you shouldn't go to the grocery store at all! People probably think of the antibac primarily as a way to protect themselves, and then they should use it on the way out, not on the way in!

Besm Allah wearing masks is a sign of our consideration to our heath. Corona Virus is a Risk, we are going to avoid. But we must know that, there are much more Risk in our life that we are take it for granted. This risk is ignorance of GOD, as the creator of us, the creator of corona virus, the creator of our life. From the islamic point of view, Death is a like a bridge to pass to resurrection. Let's think of our philosophy of existance :)

I do - when I have to go shopping it's normally two supermarkets: so I put the mask on before entering the first and take it off when I leave the second. I only have the one mask, and don't want to waste more (though Herself would give me them) so it gets shut in the boot until next time I shop. (Since the virus survives in paper for only two days apparently, it's safe to wear again next time.) Does try to fog up my glasses, but a tiny, tiny drop of washing up liquid wiped on and buffed off prevents that (I learned that one riding motorcycles - a misted up visor is not a lot of use, and the detergent removes the surface tension from the moisture, and it forms an even film instead of the droplets which fog the glass / plastic.)

I agree. The mask *helps* to prevent both the wearer and others around the wearer from becoming infected. It (a non-N95 standard mask I believe we are talking about) is not 100% protective due to it's limitations and since one can be infected via the eyes as well. But it is not at all correct in anyway to say that it does not at all benefit the wearer.

it you want a semi computer related answer (or comparison) Why do some use right click then open link or double click on hyper links still? Or debug with console.writeln() instead of using a debugger? I am sure there are things I do which if i looked up even a tad bit of knowledge on would change to improve a habit, and possible infuriates someone looking on. The point of the two question/statements is about know how. It is not necessarily right but also not wrong, however there are cases where it really is wrong due to poor knowledge, ie me googling before hand if I should defrag a new nvme m.2 drive because I didn't know if it was different enough from SSD do not do

My FIL is scared to death about contracting this virus. He wears his mask even in the house. You just have to shake your head and move on.
The mask doesn't keep the wearer from getting a virus. It protects the wearer from spreading the virus.
