On the Horns of a Dilema

Normally, I can just make a decision pretty quick and live with the consequences. But I'm faced with one that's got no middle ground for compromise. So I thought I'd seek out some helpful suggestions from my fellow CPians. About three months ago, I purchased a pair of tickets for my wife and I to go see Neil Young and Crazy Horse perform here in Toronto. The two of us have really been looking forward to this concert and are huge fans. We have just discovered though that the night of the concert, just happens to be the same night as our youngest daughter's grade eight graduation ceremony. Too make matters worse, she is probably going to be winning several awards and plaques and within the next day or two, we will hear whether she has been selected to give the validictory speech. My selfish evil side says go to the concert and my doting father side says go to the graduation ceremony. Unhappily I can not do both. What say you guys and gals? Man, life's a bitch. The terrible part of this situation is that you know you are going to go to the graduation, but you want to go to the concert. I have always preached a theory that disappointment comes when reality opposes expectations. Go to your daughter's graduation, revel in her excellence, and feel good that you have a good family. Dump the tickets and go to your daughters gradutation. You will never forget your daughters graduation, nor will you regret going. Just my 2 cents.

Ya, you really need to do the graduation thing. As someone else suggested, scalp the tickets. Then, how 'bout a road trip? Donno about Canadian dates, but Ol' Neil's playing in Michigan on the 22nd... you could try for that. :)

There is no way I would even contemplate missing an important event involving one of my children for any reason. "Sacrifices" like that are what you agreed to when you decided to become a parent.

That's an easy one. As in all decisions in life, your personal reasons should take priority over everything else. You will obviously get more enjoyment out of the concert than the graduation ceremony. So I say go to the concert. Don't worry about your daughter, she'll get over it in a few years. Attending an event where my daughter is honored for her acheivements is surely going to generate memories that will live as long as I do. Not too sure that sacrifice really describes that.
