Normally, I can just make a decision pretty quick and live with the consequences. But I'm faced with one that's got no middle ground for compromise. So I thought I'd seek out some helpful suggestions from my fellow CPians. About three months ago, I purchased a pair of tickets for my wife and I to go see Neil Young and Crazy Horse perform here in Toronto. The two of us have really been looking forward to this concert and are huge fans. We have just discovered though that the night of the concert, just happens to be the same night as our youngest daughter's grade eight graduation ceremony. Too make matters worse, she is probably going to be winning several awards and plaques and within the next day or two, we will hear whether she has been selected to give the validictory speech. My selfish evil side says go to the concert and my doting father side says go to the graduation ceremony. Unhappily I can not do both. What say you guys and gals? Chris Meech "what makes CP different is the people and sense of community, things people will only discover if they join up and join in." Christian Graus Nov 14, 2002. "Microsoft hasn't ever enforced its patents. Apparently they keep them for defensive reasons only. Or, they could be waiting 'til they have a critical mass of patents, enforce them all at once and win the game of Risk that they're playing with the world." Chris Sells Feb 18, 2003.

Dump the tickets and go to your daughters gradutation. You will never forget your daughters graduation, nor will you regret going. Just my 2 cents.

Chris, Am I right in thinking this is more a cry of pain than a question? You know what you are going to do :) And your daughter is lucky to have you.

Hmm, that fact that you are having the dilemma worries me. There is only one thing to do and that is the graduation thing. Michael 'War is at best barbarism...Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, more vengeance, more desolation. War is hell.' - General William Sherman, 1879

Goto your daughters graduation ceremony. Your daughter won't be in grade eight again but Neil Young will probably do another gig in Toronto! Live to ride. Ride to live.

Ya, you really need to do the graduation thing. As someone else suggested, scalp the tickets. Then, how 'bout a road trip? Donno about Canadian dates, but Ol' Neil's playing in Michigan on the 22nd... you could try for that. :)

There is no way I would even contemplate missing an important event involving one of my children for any reason. "Sacrifices" like that are what you agreed to when you decided to become a parent.

That's an easy one. As in all decisions in life, your personal reasons should take priority over everything else. You will obviously get more enjoyment out of the concert than the graduation ceremony. So I say go to the concert. Don't worry about your daughter, she'll get over it in a few years. Besides, there will be plenty other people in the crowd to listen to her and clap. I'm afraid the selfish, evil side wins every time Chris.:laugh::laugh: John www.silveronion.com[^]

Attending an event where my daughter is honored for her acheivements is surely going to generate memories that will live as long as I do. Not too sure that sacrifice really describes that. Oh man, have you stirred up a hornet's nest. If you don't go to your daughter's pseudo graduation she will never forget it. And, she will be sure to remind you of it when it is time to plan her wedding. How do I know this? I saw my wife who was validictorian (sp?) use this very technique to coerice money from her dad. That being said, she'll probably coerice money out of you anyway so go concert. :) Hey don't worry, I can handle it. I took something. I can see things no one else can see. grad ceremony. If you go there and it's boring, well, no big surprise. But imagine seing Neil and being bored... :suss: (I've got mixed feelings towards the Stones since I saw them in concert...) To make matters better, tell your daughter you can't be at the grad because of the concert, but show up ;P
