Masks either work or they do not work

Nearly every business seems to be requiring masks now but what I find interesting is that they are also enforcing social distancing rules as well. It seems that if you are saying we still need to stay away from each other even with masks on you're really saying that masks don't work. Too much emotion involved in so many decisions these days. #BringBackLogic

Your logic is flawed. Masks work; not to protect the one who wears it, but the people around it. During surgery, the doctor wears a mask to protect you, not him. And even if you were under the assumption that masks protect you; there's this advice to not shake hands and not to touch your face - breathing in the virus is not the only way it enters the body. I keep hearing the argument that masks don't work, even from the government here. So we have no requirement to wear them, while the countries around us made them mandatory.

Studies have shown masks in combination with social distancing reduce the spread. Masks only protect other people from you getting spittle on them. The virus can still transmit if people touch, a mask isn't fitted properly, or even if they breathe to close to each other potentially. Especially with a lot of people, or indoors problem multiplies.

Aside from the first response (to which your reply served to demean you) - consider this. Not everyone wears the face mask; not everyone keeps their distance. It's like a try . . . do-not-catch block. Were it not for the unfortunate exchange between those who think about the welfare of others and those who only think about themselves, I'd be fully in favor of letting Darwin handle this.

We had a coworker come to work for an entire day with symptoms. Her manager finally realized it and sent her home. She tested positive. No one else in the office got it even though she likely had it on her for at least a couple of days. On a scale of 1-10 of apocolyptic viruses, this thing is a 2. It's just not as bad as everyone wants to make it. If people are freaking out this much about a 2, what will happen when we have a 7 or 8? People will die just from anxiety. :doh:

I was invited to a restaurant yesterday morning for breakfast. There were 4 of us at a table. There wasn't 6 feet between the chairs. And nobody ate with a mask on. To follow your train of thought: I've noticed some people were using hand sanitizer on their way out. What message does this send...?

SARS, MERS, avian flu, swine flu, all their yearly variations...somehow we've made it this far. The difference now is that nobody has a backbone anymore, and nobody wants to be held accountable. If you're instructed by politicians to follow guidelines, and you don't, then it's on you if someone gets infected - they're off the hook, so they're happy. That's why we're doing this.
