Why I hate Microsoft and .Net....

Your should fly to Redmond and poke them with sticks 'til they say sorry. Regards Ray "Je Suis Mort De Rire"

I ordered the .Net beta 2 CD when it was annouced. It arrived two weeks ago - you do the math. Finally tonight I found the time, I repartitioned my hard drive and set up a virgin W2000 installation to accomodate .Net without killing VC 6 for my usual development purposes and so I could judge how it affected my system ( no other variables ). The DVD they sent me is unreadable. I tried all three of my O/S just in case, and the DVD they charged me $15 or so for, and took forever to ship, is shot to hell. What a pile of garbage. Am I to assume the mastering software was written in C# ? Is this the degree to which they are wanting to evangelise .Net ? I even ordered a C# book so I could have a reference when I set out to have a decent look at it. I am VERY annoyed. I suggest checking your DVD on another player/PC if at all possible. A couple of years ago I bought a PC game. It wouldnt install, and when I tried to read it the CD seemed corrupted. I rang the shop about a return and they were quite hesitant and said they'd test the disk and charge me if it was ok. So... I loaded it up on a work PC... no problems. I went out that day and bought a new CD drive, never had another problem. Now I'm not saying it isnt the DVD, but it may be something else worth checking.

I was sent 2 copies of the resource CD instead of CD3. Good job I asked for a copy to be sent to my home address as well as the office address!

I received a free CD (I think) in the mail with .NET Beta 2 on it.. it was unreadable. Out it went. Maybe it was a DVD. If the folks in Reddmond think we all have DVD's now.. well, I guess that's consistent with their erroneous belief that we all have high-speed access too.

I got a free copy of .NET Beta 2 and VStudio Beta 2 with this month's Dr Dobb's Journal. Haven't had time to load it yet so I can't say if it is corrupt or not.

If you received the .NET Beta 2 as part of a magazine subscription (such as DDJ, etc) chances are it's a DVD. I happen to have three of the DVD's (from various magazines) sitting around my home. If I didn't have a DVD at work (which I just barely received), I would have tossed them. When I put the 'CD' into my computer at home I thought I had received another corrupted CD. (I once received a corrupted set of MSDN Library CD's from MS.) I figured it out though, when I looked at the center right of the 'CD' face and the letters 'DVD' magically appeared. :-O -Sean ---- Artificial intelligence usually beats real stupidity.

Just plain bad luck. I once got a Windows CD with errors on. I don't think MS makes the CD's themself... My brother have a spare VS.NET DVD, you can mail me your address, then he can send it to you... - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!"
Actually, most of Microsoft's CDs and DVDs are burned here in Hunstville, AL. My friend is the IT manager for the shop and he gives me some heads up when things go wrong. Like when they mis-burned about 75% of the latest version of Flight Simulator last year. PS. They also do DVD movies and almost shipped 10,000 copies of X-Men boxes without DVDs in them. Now I ask you, how do convince a store owner that there was no DVD in the case when you got home? I picked up my copy of the CD from MSDN Magazine out of a book store for $5.
