So 8 out of 10 people have figured out that masks do nothing to prevent the spread of a virus. Bottom line, don't cough or sneeze on other people (it's always been rude). Multiple studies, including one in Denmark that was released Thanksgiving week, have now shown that masks have no statistical impact on the spread of any viral disease.
Yep, the interweb is a wonderful thing - if you want to get you and your loved ones killed. There's always going to be someone, somewhere telling you exactly what you want to hear. I have not looked into the science, but surely, even if there is only a slim chance that a mask will protect yourself and others, it makes sense to wear it. Or you can just do what I do and stay in 24x7. According to my wife, (who does have to go out - to work), there are still plenty of people by us, (Northants, UK), still not wearing masks. So it's not surprising that, later today, we are going to have Boris tell us that we are going to get more restrictions. I doubt it will make much difference though. People just don't seem to get it. Until we introduce a Tier 11, (with an 8pm curfew, and snipers on the rooftops), I don't think we are going to stop the spread! :rolleyes:

People around here don't get served in businesses if they aren't wearing masks, but a lot of people will wear them incorrectly, like not covering their nose, because ... i won't say it here but people are a problem. It's frustrating to me, but nothing like what you're talking about. People are just.. smdh. :doh: We learned nothing from the 1918 H1N1 outbreak, that's for sure.

Where I live, about 2 people in 10 wear a mask to protect themselves and others from the Covid virus. And the governor has made it mandatory to wear a mask. Also I was watching a program on YouTube called the "Watched Walker", and maybe 1 person in 20 was wearing a mask in the Christmas shopping crowds. Is this how they developed a new strain there? What is it like where you live? Also, do you intend to get the vaccination when it is available? BTW: It Seems to me that British TV is far superior to American TV. I love Time Team, and Absolute History

Over here (Sweden), people are pretty good at keeping the distance, but you're not obliged to wear a mask, so less than one third does. I have noticed though that when I wear one other keep better distance to me.

Masks are generally poor at protecting the wearer. The Danish study you refer to, only measured whether the wearer was protected or not, and the result only showed a small difference that was not statistically significant. The whole point with wearing a mask is to protect others, that's the reason a surgeon is wearing a mask while operating.

Here, Nassau County in NY, people are pretty good about it. My community is very non-urban, so if you go out for a walk you may likely wear it on your chin unless someone is approaching. Then on it goes. Public places, stores, etc., make sure you wear them (if for no other reason than to not be closed down). Although idiot still exist (so many Millions in NY State), the memory of what we went through to begin with and how COVID was beaten back to below 1% (before the Traveling morons decided an uptick was needed). Many stores still keep their (extra early AM) seniors/nurse/EMT hours, even when occupancy restrictions were lifted. And, of course, one need only look at the states that found it more comfortable to pretend it was all a Hoax, or just another flu, and that they should have spent time building more hospitals as they weren't going to otherwise inconvenience themselves.

I don't know about current UK TV programs, but The Boss and I like to watch older British shows on Amazon TV and Britbox. US TV just has to many brainless, rubbish shows to our liking. We stream the British shows, so we don't even need cable to watch.

UK TV is fast catching up in all areas. Even though the BBC channels do not have commercials, much of their output these days is "opium for the masses".

You forgot to quote the "snipers" bit. I don't know about the curfew, but I'm pretty sure that snipers is scientifically proven! To be honest, I don't give a sh!t about the science. I just take note of what's happening in the real world. And, here in the UK, we've had 50K+ new cases two days running and nearly 1000 deaths yesterday. Our hospitals are at capacity and the NHS staff are at breaking point. Clearly the measures currently in place aren't working - because people are not sticking to the rules. So the only way this is going, is up. More cases. More deaths. And more restrictions.

Everyone wears a mask when at a store, unless they have a medical condition that prevents that. Outdoors, it varies - if people are talking close together or are in a crowded outdoor area, they probably are, otherwise some people don't, especially when they are alone and certainly more than 6 feet separated. Some people do wear masks, even if they are taking a walk in the woods with their SO. I see people wearing masks while driving alone in their car.

Me personally, absolutely not. However, I am not an anti-vaxxer and respect those who do get the vaccine and can certainly understand the reasons. Enough said on that matter.
