I was going to say "Define tool", but it seems that you beat me to it. EDIT: Now that Windows Defender is as good as these anti-virus programs, they're getting desperate and have become crapware, or bloatware at best.

It's probably a lesser offence than preinstalling Norton on a computer you sell ... :~

For me, it was a Commando[^] The one in the pictures isn't original, it has earlier reverse code megas rather than the annular discharge ones they came with. Fitting reverse cones was very common in those days as the "black cap" silencers were very quiet and reduced power. Both of mine had reverse cones and quiet was not even close to an accurate description!

Probably a coincidence. I was going by independent reviews. I previously used Norton and later McAfee, but have only used Windows Defender, without any problems, for a couple of years now. Not to say that msn.com doesn't have problems. I never use it myself.

Guilty by association, I guess. Like John McAfee, as you said, Peter Norton has sold his company decades ago and today's product is just garbage, and he has to forever live with the affiliation.

Long gone are the days of Norton being the darling in the hearts and minds of pc vendors offering it as the antivirus on new pcs having given way to (Bad) McAfee Livesafe and (Better) Windows defender. So like other companies swan songs Norton lashes out and does this. Which means they don't care anymore. I don't think they have for the last decade.

Ever since Peter Norton sold his software to Symantec it's gone downhill from a useful suite of tools to a bloated nightmare that consumes system resources for no apparent reason. At least now there's a reason. ;P
