Why does every stock photo for "coder" or anything related to software development always feature HTML, Javascript, or minified CSS as the screenshot the exemplifies hard core coding. (although I guess I know the answer: designers) I wanna see some BASIC in those screenshots. Or Scratch.

Maybe it's the easiest code to "fake." They wouldn't want to show any real intellectual property.

The difficult we do right away... ...the impossible takes slightly longer.

Because if you used "real code" you'd probably want "real coders" as well, and ... some of them don't photograph well. :~

I find that how well I photograph is inversely proportional to how much code I am writing at the time.

There was a span of a good 15 years or so where it seemed like almost every time I saw a code snippet in marketing materials it was rendered in the Chicago typeface. Chicago, for the young’uns, is the original font used for system text like buttons and menus on the Mac. Aside from being not even close to monospace, it was designed *specifically* to be used as title text on low-res, 1-bit displays. Nobody ever used it for code without first uttering the sentence, “hey, this’ll be funny.” But it sort of entered the zeitgeist as “generic techie font” for a long while.

The problem with that is that APL doesn't look like code. Looks more like astrology or some other sort of sorcery.

"Coding" nowadays has become mostly web or mobile. As web has been around longer than mobile, it looks more familiar to most non-tech people.
