I know there is a lot of controversy about the number 13. And no 13th floor, I am led to believe, nowhere in America. Still, I have been suffering from chronic illness all my life. Turns out, I learned in 2009, 13 years ago, that all the pain I endure is mostly caused by food. Though the specific triggers were still nebulous, turns out I got a lot of allergies: celiac/gluten, egg, many vegetables... And, apart from the gluten, I had to discover them all by myself (I tried many doctor but they couldn't help). Anyway I think I nailed it and since last December life has been mostly good. Finally. After such a long time. Yoooooo hoooooo! :jig: :jig: :jig: :jig: :jig: :jig: :jig: :-D

My birthdate is on a 13. I'm still trying to decide whether I'm more or less lucky than the average person who was not born on a 13.

Friend, consider move to China. People there like 13, but some of them are afraid to see 4, 14, 24... Thus there may not be the 4th or 14th floor in a hotel.

I like 13. My Mother-in-Law was very, VERY superstitious. Hated 13. Avoided it like the plague. I now live in House Number 13. Very, very few visits from the M-in-L and when she did visit she didn't stay long at all. Happy Days! Glad you've finally nailed the allergies :rose:

All I know is that being run over 13 times by a steam roller on a Friday is a sign of bad luck.

I hazard to guess that your in-laws don't meddle in your affairs too much, and this is why you get along with them. I know for most in-law stress, it is because the MIL is a meddler, among other things. :sigh: Interestingly enough, the MIL is the main antagonist, not the FIL, as one might think. The FIL usually goes along with what the MIL does because he doesn't want his sex life to end. Those who have a good relationship with their in-laws ARE truly blessed.

Seeing that you would die most assuredly after the 1st time you got rolled over, how would you be able to count to 13? :)

My MIL is something of a meddler, but I think she realizes she is, so she keeps herself from getting too overbearing.

On October 13th 2014 I had such severe food poisoning I should have been in the hospitable.(To tell you how bad it was, imagine eating Taco Bell, it was ten times worse than that...) Then on the night of September 13th(officially the 14th, but it was 2 in the morning), my dad died...... 13 a good luck number? I don't think so...

How many distinct "events" do you experience a day? A week? A year? How large fraction of those events could be said to include some negative elements? There is a (roughly) 3% probability that a randomly timed event will land on the 13th of the month. If you stretch it the way you do, including the next day as well to make your point, the probability is 6%. How many randomly timed events, with 3% chance of hitting the 13th (or 6%, if you include the 14th) does it take to make more than 50% probability that at least one of them will hit that date? How does that number compare to the number of events in your life? When you start your studies, make sure to take a course in elementary statistics.

Both of my in-laws have passed away, so no problems/benefits at all. I loved my Mother-in-law totally and completely. She was the only person I ever met who was good, through and through, Mind, body and spirit. Sometimes I got on better with her than my wife! My father-in-law was a PITA. He never forgave me for sleeoing with his daughter. When walking her down the aisle, he literally had a scowl on his face! But I buried him AND the Collie he used to sic on me when I would pick her up for a date before we were married. "He who laughs last, etc."

                                        That's right, I communicated it!
