Great. Is it possible to make it open source accompanied by an article here on CP?

The original, (real), Wordle, pretty much is open source. The entire game, including all the words, is written in JavaScript and sitting in your browser.

I love Wordle but hate waiting for a new game.  So I wrote Wordle Anytime.  Now I can play Wordle... anytime.  And so can you. :)     https://ravib.com/wordle/[^] /ravi

The fact that there is only one try per day is what makes it remain interesting for me.

Yes, it gives me a "Brain Start" while I drink my :java:. If I could do it anytime, it would get boring pretty quickly, I suspect. How do you start? I tend to use either AEROS or TINEA as my starter, they seem to give me good results - I haven't failed to get it yet, though one did take me all 6 tries.

I always start with a random word, and most of the time I get it in 4 or 5. Although I have got a couple in the second guess. [edit] Took me five today. [/edit]

I prefer mine, because they contain three vowels - and there are likely to be at least two in any word. So I almost always get at least one yellow, and up to four!

A random word gives you a 1:20,000 (or so) chance of being correct, so I like to start with words that give me the most information: which vowels, and a couple of "frequent flier" consonants. It seems to help, my stats aren't too bad, I think - 53% in 4 guesses, 16% in three. (And some very lucky 6% in 2 guesses!)

                    Guesses Percentage
                    1 0
                    2 6.25
                    3 15.625
                    4 53.125
                    5 21.875
                    6 3.125

Anyone with a high "one guess" percent is suspect, I think!

Careful. I recall reading that the NY Times paid some millions for this, and I have to assume it was to acquire the rights.

I used Letter Frequencies in the English Language[^] to decide on ROAST, LINED, and CHUMP as the first three, although it often deviates on the third, and sometimes even second, word. An average of 3.75 after 48 days (0-3-14-24-6-1). I still haven't seen anything truly nasty, like GLYPH or QUEUE. :)

I read somewhere that RATES is a good word for a starter because not only is 'S' one of the most common letters, having it as the last letter is even better because 'S' is often the last letter of a word (and not just for plurals).

I actually think that having one word a day, (which is the same for everyone), is what has made the game successful. You are quickly going to tire of just guessing random 5-letter words in isolation.

I love Wordle but hate waiting for a new game.  So I wrote Wordle Anytime.  Now I can play Wordle... anytime.  And so can you. :)     https://ravib.com/wordle/[^] /ravi

Very nice. But I miss the BS and ENTER keys on the keyboard.

Just use your keyboard's DEL and ENTER keys.  You can also use the computer's physical keyboard to enter letters. /ravi
