Take over Code Universe
-
Why doesn't Code Project take over Code Universe Beacause they have stolen the design and tried to promote themselves in a lame way, right here in lounge. Do you need more reasons? Tomasz Sowinski -- http://www.shooltz.com
Beacause they have stolen the design and tried to promote themselves in a lame way, right here in lounge. That is exactly my point. They have stolen the design and if you want a sister site, then it would easier to acquire them then to write it from scratch. tried to promote themselves in a lame way After you acquire them, Code Project would then own Code Universe and they won't promote themselves since they are owned by Code Project. (duh !)

Besides, you wouldn't want to reward those guys for ripping off the CP design by joining up with them and saying "OK, let's cross-promote each other!".

Who wants a sister site? Lots of people.

So maybe these 'lots of people' should start to work and create a site. If this is so important for you, contribute to CodeUniverse - you'll be the first person who posted anything on this two-bit thing. Tomasz Sowinski -- http://www.shooltz.com

I said take over Code Universe NOT merge with Code Universe. The staff for Code Universe will be the same as Code Project's. It's not like we have to work with their staff. Their staff will be laid off. Besides, i think Najmul Khawaja will sell Code Universe for very very cheap since it was after all a rip off.

If this is so important for you, contribute to CodeUniverse I don't like the evilness of Code Universe. I want Code Universe to be owned by Code Project so i feel safe when posting my articles there. They just might rip off the articles too. Besides, Code Project can be more richer since the owner (Chris) would be serving a broader range of audience. Chris can be a millionaire by providing content for the NON-MS world.

Besides, i think Najmul Khawaja will sell Code Universe for very very cheap since it was after all a rip off. Why should Chris -- or anyone for that matter -- have to pay someone to buy an obvious ripoff site? This Najmul character gets paid for stealing CP's design and designing a half-assed site, and CodeProject gets...what? CodeUniverse's outstanding brand name? Their rich user base? Their expensive ad contracts? Sounds like a pretty bad deal to me.

Chris can be a millionaire by providing content for the NON-MS world. I'm sure Chris is already a millionaire (remember all those trips to Redmond? It costs lots of money) and doesn't care a bit about such b*llshit like CodeUniverse. Tomasz Sowinski -- http://www.shooltz.com

I think it is a good deal because the site does provide some useful content and Chris doesn't have the time to write another site from scratch. The deal is cheap because writing from scratch will cost more and every thing is ready (Domain Name, etc.)

I think it is a good deal because the site does provide some useful content and Chris doesn't have the time to write another site from scratch. Actually, with Code Universe, Chris would still have a lot of work; the whole site appears to be implemented as static HTML, so unless the site operator(s) are a real glutton for unneccessary work, they'd need to write a full set of backend/frontend scripts. Really, in the end, the only thing that'd be saved is the cost of the domain name. Anyway, that's enough of this discussion for now, I've got 3D intersection routines to write!

Chris, can you please comment ? I would love to hear your opinion(s).

Hi, the previous threads about the Code Project Sister site have slipped away. I have a idea. It would be easier to have a sister site if Code Project take over Code Universe and names Code Universe it's sister site. The advantage of taking over Code Universe is that it has the same design as Code Project and it's related to Linux/PHP/Unix, etc. programming. Chris won't have to do that much work since the site looks the same as Code Project and it is already established so you won't have to write a Non-MS programming site from scratch. Even though i hate Code Universe because they stole Code Project's design, i have to admit, they do have some good content. Even if their content sucks, after acquring them things can be changed around. As far as system adminstration is considered, Non-MS fans here at Code Project can manage the site while Chris is busy managing Code Project. Just an idea.

No, the site isn't static HTML. They use perl. Chris would still have a lot of work Hey, who said he has to do it all by himself. All us non-MS developers will help.

Ouch. Headache. CU rears its ugly head again. Whoever made CU did a great job of scouring the web for articles and linking to them from CU. But that's all it is - a collection of links. They have a lot of work to do to make CU ready for prime time. If and when they do that, they won't even need CP as a "sister site." The merit of an excellent site alone will carry them to success. However, from the looks of things, the owner is only interested in constructing a half-ass ripoff to try to make a quick buck. In other words, he (or maybe she) is calling a Cubic Zirconia a diamond and trying to sell it to certified gemologist. Bad idea. If you are so intent on seeing a "sister site," then why don't you take the bull by the horns and create one yourself? You said that you're afraid to work with CU, which implies that you *are* willing to work, so start your own. You have a fantastic idea, but all you ever do is talk about it. So create it! The most successful people in the world have great ideas AND they execute them. Web hosting is cheap; domains only cost $15 a year; and advertising can help offset the expenses. You seem to be proficient with Perl, so what's the problem? Jon Sagara Sagara Software

A few points here 1/ Take over ? We're going to storm the barricades with Uzis ? Or we're going to give this guy money for ripping off CP ? 2/ CU has no useful information, it's all links ( at least it was the two times I've looked as a result of discussions here ). If you want a links site, you don't need to buy it. Links are free. 3/ Ever heard of code reuse ? Why would Chris need to write a site from scratch when he has all the code already from CP ? What, on if he's a millionaire, or if he should fork out to buy a scabby site that no-one visits ? Hassan, you've painted yourself into a corner here, and continued insistence that CP should buy CU really looks a lot like you're in the employ of CU. 'Feel safe posting code there' ? Who is making you/why would you feel you need to ? Christian As I learn the innermost secrets of the around me, they reward me in many ways to keep quiet. As Chris said he doesn't have time to dedicate to another site. If he's not working on it what point is there to have it associated with the CodeProject site?

I'm sure Chris is already a millionaire Bwahaha! <wipes tears of laughter from eyes> Nooooo - Chris is not even vaguely close to being a millionaire. If Chris were a millionaire (or even a hundred-thousand-aire) he'd not be living in Canberra ;) cheers, Chris Maunder (CodeProject)
