KFC apologises after German Kristallnacht promotion[^] :wtf:

What do you get when you cross a joke with a rhetorical question? The metaphorical solid rear-end expulsions have impacted the metaphorical motorized bladed rotating air movement mechanism. Do questions with multiple question marks annoy you???

The insensitivity is appalling, but what is worse is that it means the horrors perpetrated by Nazi Germany are fading from collective memory. Once forgotten, it could easily happen again.

It looked to me like it was a result of someone trying to be efficient and really stepping in it. The Kristallnacht memorial day is observed in Germany as an official holiday I think. Ergo, if someone simply imported all the holidays into their app without really going through every single one to make sure it was appropriate this would happen. It looks like an innocent, if very unfortunate error, not an attempt to terrorize people with it via a fast food company.

To err is human. Fortune favors the monsters.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity? :~

I'm just saying from what I read about it, it appeared to be a ridiculously stupid mistake, rather than a malicious actor. That doesn't make it okay, please don't misunderstand me. Hopefully, automating these holiday send outs will no longer be a thing that people do. Hopefully, lessons were learned. And yeah, I do think the onus is on KFC to apologize for it and make good on it, whatever that means. I'm not German, and I'm not Jewish, so that's as far as I'll weigh in.

I didn't impute any nefarious motives to you. I suspect that your theory is correct, and that this is a result of abysmal stupidity, rather than malice. I doubt that anyone in Global KFC even knew about this promotion, let alone approved it. OTOH, we Jews are especially sensitive to such things because bitter experience has shown us that persecution does not start with revocation of legal rights; it starts with small incidents like these, and grows from there.

I completely agree with you. This kind of thing can't be left to happen.

As if we could do so much to avoid it... The most stupid animal in the world is the human mass

M.D.V. ;) If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about? Help me to understand what I'm saying, and I'll explain it better to you Rating helpful answers is nice, but saying thanks can be even nicer.

Perhaps my research isn't that great but far as I can tell Kristallnacht is not a national holiday in Germany. So as far as the excuse for entering it accidently one might wonder exactly what source they were using to decide the promotion days.
