Wu hoo, got a public holiday today. And like a true blue Aussie I've taken a bludge[^] day tomorrow to get the 4 day weekend. It's almost 19:30 and its still 30 degrees outside. Got to a top of 37, and you guessed, it our air-con is out of action. The new one gets installed on the 9th Feb. It was a good day, the kids (& grandson who is now 4 months old) came round and had a BBQ. Glad we have a pool, have been in and out all day; & we avoid the beach where the entire population seems to occupy a single stretch.

 It's nice when it cools off overnight. But we did move to the Gold Coast for the warmth.

Just cracked 30 in the upper Blue Mountains today. Took herself and a couple of friends to Mt York for a picnic lunch. One of the few nice spots in the upper mountains not overrun with tourists. Now watching a spectacular light show heading down towards Sydney. Cheers, Peter

I grew up in in Sydney and glad to be out. But the Blue Mountains is a top spot. My cousin and God Daughter/her family still live in Blaxland and look for the slightest excuse to visit. I haven't kept track, what's the fire danger like this year?

Short answer: Forest, not too bad. (Black Summer took out a LOT of fuel.) Grass, particularly inland, starting to burn like mad. Lots of growth over 3 wet years, now drying off. Disclaimer: You did not hear this from a Deputy Captain in the RFS>

I'm partly through (and thoroughly enjoying) Bill Bryson's book about Australia "In a Sunburned Country". For the folks that know, is it pretty accurate description of your world?

                  I don't know, I've never the book. :-O When I Googled it:

                  Quote:

It is the driest, flattest, hottest, most infertile and climatically aggressive of all the inhabited continents, and still Australia teems with life - a large portion of it quite deadly. In fact, Australia has more things that can kill you in a very nasty way than anywhere else. Ignoring such dangers - and yet curiously obsessed by them - Bill Bryson journeyed to Australia and promptly fell in love with the country. And who can blame him? The people are cheerful, extroverted, quick-witted and unfailingly obliging: their cities are safe and clean and nearly always built on water; the food is excellent; the beer is cold and the sun nearly always shines. Life doesn't get much better than this...

Its's certainly how we like to see ourselves.

Why not go to a different stretch then and have a private beach? 🤔

Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, weighing all things in the balance of reason?
