Thanks for the reminder, I think one phone going off per household is more than enough.

The whole of Florida USA was woken up just after 4:00 AM this morning by the loud noise of an amber alert on their phones. It turns out the alert was "just a test"! A test that time of the morning!? They must either be very stupid or crazy!

Can't disable it? I can turn off all of these with the exception of 'Presidential Alerts', like I wanna see those X| .

Just watch the accident rates - a siren goes off in your pocket at 80 on the motorway ... :~

Sounds like they forgot to adjust from UTC to US East coast time.

In Florida we only really need them when a hurricane is imminent.

we have tornados. Not sure which is worse. Hurricane much bigger and spawns tornados. But midwest tornados are huge and come out of nowhere.

I power my phone off during sleeping hours. Making oneself accessible to notifications 24/7 is nonsensical.

Yes, but we have a daughter living with us and she works the late shift at a grocery store. She typically gets home after midnight. We need to sleep with phones on in case she has some emergency and needs us.

Just switch off emergency alerts on your phone. Although I am considering being present in Tesco on Sunday when everyone else's phone goes off and then proceed to run around babbling "We're all going to die!" Goodness knows what is going to happen on the roads when a bunch of drivers reach for their phones to switch off the loud alarm.

Like all of us here got disciplined or fired for every mistake in our code (that undoubtedly made it to production)? Luckily, the world doesn't work like that.

I like the prime time ones. If we are sitting in the den at 9pm watching TV and a gray Toyota drives through - it does not matter what the license plate is on it - I'm calling the cops. I don't need an alert for that.

Yeah, I've never made a mistake in system management, ;) . The company is losing their contract as a result since Ron (Mr. Perfect   ) DeSantis has so ordained it. I'm not saying it wasn't a really dumb error, but let he who hath not sinned cast the first stone?

Oh dear. It's bad enough when a weather alert for an area of the state hundreds of miles away comes through. I have nearly all alerts turned off on my phone. I can look out the window for myself. When we were in L.A. last week someone "thought she smelled smoke" and pulled the hotel fire alarm at 04:00 one morning.
