                I have heard mericans also mesicans texacans In parts of louisana/mississippi, Texas is referred to as the land of lizards and cactus go figure

                    Kind of a backhand, Pete ... "Merkins" ? :) might want to think about that: [^] "mericans" more on target. Any country's national identity holidays are an elephant you can't miss, if you want to pillory its stereotypic caricatures.

                      "Merkin" was being used by people in other English-speaking countries to refer to Americans when I first stumbled across the Internet in 1996. The Australians also call us "seppos." The Canadians seem to polite to use either of those. Some of the British were shocked that "merkin" didn't make us feel insulted. We just laughed about it.
