Ever have one of those moments where you can't believe you never thought of something before? It's like your sitting there just staring at your screen or looking at something in nature and then your mind goes "What the fuck?" at some thought tickling the back of your primative cerebrum? I just finished watching Terminator 3: Rise of the machines and found it totally awesome the way the Skynet came to existance. This idea's a doozy... Has anyone ever thought of using a Managed C++ (or C#) based WebService along with a client to consume the WebService as a basis for a Distributed Instant Messaging System? What I mean by distributed is that the webservice would be able to link up with copies of itself on other servers which would increase redundancy along the network ( which would be useful in the event that any one server should fail ) and also this would be useful for performing load balancing. Using XML, I think this could turn into a really powerful and extensible messaging platform. If anyone has any comments / suggestion / caveats to bring to the table, please feel free to pipe up.

It's good to see kids turning their minds to wholesum activities such as programming, instead of wasting their lives in the hedonistic disciplines of Sex, Drugs, & Rock & Roll... or Sex with Drugs, or Sex with Rocks while Rolling in Drugs, or whatever new-fangled perversions you little monsters have thought up now... Jabber is an XML IM protocol that would be perfect for your idea. There are few Windows-based server implementations and no .NET server implementations (that I know of). However, Winfessor does have a nice Jabber Framework of .NET classes that should make it easier to implement a server using your idea. BTW, I thought of it a long time ago, just don't know how to do it!;P The only thing I know is that I know nothing. Well, that could be could be remedied by simply adding JohnConner, T850, and KateBrewster as client methods ;P

You don't have to tell me twice. They have so much Spyware in that damned junkheap that they could probably determine what you have for breakfast. Of course that would require a fecal sample which they would logicly obtain after you crapped yourself from all the adware included with it :-D

I tend to shy away from using prepackaged implementations, especially when it comes to something that I'm going to need to customize to an extreme extent. I will however look into it and possibily build something similar, but more customized toward what I need exactly. I think having something like this would be really cool.
