I got a robo call, nobody speaks when I answer. I'm bored so I decided to call the number back after hanging up on the robot. Some dude answered, denies it was a robo call (lying I'm sure), and then this starts...

Me: Nobody appreciates unsolicited calls these days. Telemarketer: This isn't an unsolicited call. It was. They were trying to offer me a "loan" which I'm sure is a scam. Me: Why you are arguing with me dude? Telemarketer: Gets angry... I'm not arguing with you. Few rounds of blah blah blah. Me: Have a nice day. Good bye. Hang up on him while he's going off.

For the life of me, I can't understand why people do this. Do folks actually fall for this crap? Especially when home dude needs to pull the stick out?

In some places this is a type of scam as because when you answer they hang up. If you ring back the number you can be charged excessive call costs and hence how they make there money.

I get 10 to 15 calls a week in my spanish number, not really a scam just telemarketing trying to sell me something (mostly another contract for the cell phone) I have already told several times, they should please stop, but they do not even know where they are calling, the pc does the call for them. And the a$$holes have a range of phone numbers that change from time to time, so blocking the numbers brings not so much. I whish all the people could get out, but their call centers burn down to ashes.

The number they called you with was probably spoofed. There's a good chance you called someone who's involvement was limited to their phone number being borrowed without their knowledge.

Yeah, the default phone app on my Android is limited to blocking 500 specific numbers. Once that filled up, I ended up just writing a little "blocking" app that blocks whole ranges of numbers. It's very effective. I may get one odd call every other month now.

My favorites are the "Windows' Help Desk" ones. It's fun to string them along and then ask what IP address they are getting messages from my machine from. "Hey, YOU called me about this so you should know what my IP address is." Then I get to tell them I'm on a Mac. My public service, keeping these bozos on the line with me keeps them from scamming other people.

I’ve given up trying to be calm. However, I am open to feeling slightly less agitated. I’m begging you for the benefit of everyone, don’t be STUPID.

I simply don't answer calls from unrecognized numbers. If it's important, they can leave a VM, though I sometimes do a search on the number afterwards to see if it belongs to a business that I've dealt with.

Most of the time I do that too, but I was expecting a doctor's office call. Soooo ya know, living on the edge.

Yeah, the default phone app on my Android is limited to blocking 500 specific numbers. Once that filled up, I ended up just writing a little "blocking" app that blocks whole ranges of numbers. It's very effective. I may get one odd call every other month now.

I got a robo call, nobody speaks when I answer. I'm bored so I decided to call the number back after hanging up on the robot. Some dude answered, denies it was a robo call (lying I'm sure), and then this starts...

When I get such robo calls, I chant Sanskrit verses, and the caller gets bored and hangs up. Can recite Sanskrit verses from memory continuously for more than an hour.
