I just watched the movie Jerry & Marge Go Large (2022) - IMDb[^], which is about a retired man, and can recommend it. Although IMDB states that it is "Based on a true story" I find that hard to believe, but nevertheless a very enjoyable movie without the usual shooting and computer generated graphics :-\

I'll check it out. I like the actor Cranston. He's been brilliant.

I have not made any recommendations, and I am not likely to. What appeals to me may not appeal to other people.

Helene came through close to us and we have one heck of a mess to clean up. Yard looks like a bomb went off. Fortunately we just had a Generac unit put in so we have power.

are you in Florida? The bottom half of Georgia is 90%+ without power. Trying to chase down my mother-in-law of my son. No answer to texts yet. That part of the family is in south Georgia (Cecil, north of Valdosta).

As I sat in my gloom, a voice came to me: "cheer up things could be worse" So, I cheered up. Things got worse. Successful retirement: wife does her thing, I do my thing. We give each other space.

"wife does her thing, I do my thing" Absolute truth, but I did not see the situation coming. I've spent my life herding children and working my butt off. I'm down to two in the house plus us, and what rankles me is this in-law thing. It's like I have an 88 yo toddler. Nothing, against him, it's just not what I had on my radar for this time in my life. I need to go see my son and his family (USARMY) on their way to Germany in the next 2 weeks. But, wife is afraid to leave the area, because we might get a call from the geriatric mental facility that MIL is in. She's in full mother mode for her dad. I get it, but I'm in the just wow mode.

We're in White Springs, FL. North of I10 and I75 intersection. Looks like a bomb hit, 10 trees down and limbs everywhere. Have Generac, but line to house down. Luckily no damage and everyone safe.

I read this and tears come to my eyes, retirement should be a relaxing, pleasant slide into a peaceful ending, preferable 20-30 years from now. It is probably still better than being alone (probably).

wife is binge watching the hurricane coming in, 88 yo father in law was doddering around, and somewhere in my recent past I thought I retired. Gin, I need gin.

Sheesh, I read that as “I need a new wife”! And your very next sentence talked about your wife binge-watching the TV about hurricane news. How often does that coincidence happen!?

Retired from Singapore and moved to Cairns, we knew no one except our son (who we do NOT socialise with). We got a couple of dogs and made a few friends with people walking the beach, joined a bridge club and picked up a few more friends. We have a thing called "Men's Sheds" here but I have not been involved in them as I have more people I call friends (4-5) than I can deal with. I had my wife as my only friend for the previous 20 years.
