fine, i've deleted it. i simply thought that on a day where the US has been deemed worthy of losing so much that it might be nice to have a 2nd opinion. but, i can see i've offended people by simply sticking up for my own country. this troubles me greatly. i don't think i would ever say anything negative about another person's country, given similar circumstances. and this makes me think that for the critics here, the circumstances must seem different - that the US deserved what it got. again, i hope your countries never go through this - pick you favorite landmark, fill it full of people and drive two planes into it. i guarantee you I won't tell you to keep quiet. -c

Yeehhhaaaa!!!! Don't forget the way you looked after those West Africans that your forebearers picked up on the way to the good ol'US of A. The way you treated the American Indians. Russia kicked your arse in every First to do in space except the Moon Landing. It was an Austrian who gave you the Atomic Bomb. You cooked a few of your own astronauts while testing everything for space. You lost more soldiers to friendly fire than enemy fire in Desert Storm. No-one doubts the good America does it is the look at me, geeze I'm fucking good in your face attitude that pisses people off. Don't forget the way you looked after those West Africans that your forebearers picked up on the way to the good ol'US of A yeah, us and nearly every other country in the world at the time. The way you treated the American Indians. i hear the Australian natives are having a lot of fun these days. Russia kicked your arse in every First to do in space except the Moon Landing. but the US has kicked everyone's ass since then. so we're slow starters. BFD. and no offense, but how's the Aussie space program? You cooked a few of your own astronauts while testing everything for space. no risk, no glory. You lost more soldiers to friendly fire than enemy fire in Desert Storm. it's our fault Iraq can't stand up to the rhetoric their leader spouts? it's our fault that the Iraqi "Replublican Guard" (or whatever they call themselves) couldn't do more damage than we did accidentally? holy shit, man. you are one confused and bitter dude. let's just hope Australia never finds itself in this situation. i don't think i'd be up for insulting them, but, who knows, maybe i could - maybe if i got to know them better. -c ------------------------------ Smaller Animals Software, Inc. http://www.smalleranimals.com

This is probably a poor time to argue about this, but... Don't forget the way you looked after those West Africans that your forebearers picked up on the way to the good ol'US of A yeah, us and nearly every other country in the world at the time. Except Britain and her colonies, yes. The way you treated the American Indians. i hear the Australian natives are having a lot of fun these days. What do you mean by that ? The fact they are given money hand over fist, or the fact that we have hordes of white people lining up for such benefits because they 'feel' aboriginal, or because a distance relative was seen speaking to one ? Or the fact they are trying to get an official admission of guilt over things that (regretably) happened 50 years ago, so anyone with off-white skin over 50 years of age can sue the Government ? (This was the point that caused me to respond to the post, if you didn't guess ) Russia kicked your arse in every First to do in space except the Moon Landing. but the US has kicked everyone's ass since then. so we're slow starters. BFD. and no offense, but how's the Aussie space program? We were never stupid enough to waste that much money to visit a rock. The space program was propaganda for the cold war. I'm not sure what prompted Michael's post... Probably should have taken a few deep breathes and counted to ten and this wouldn't have happened. I understand the tradgedy that has occured is unprecedented and everyone is trying to come to terms with what it all means, if anyone had read any of my posts over the last couple of days they would understand this. This post on America added to the pro US banter I have received here at work the last couple of days from the Americans we have working here tipped me over the edge. I won't apologise for my opinions any more than I expect John, Stan or Christian too on theirs. I will though apologise for the timing. "Blowing our own trumpet" as Christian observed above is a very time honored American tradition. "I'm a ring tailed howler, an alligator horse. I can lasso the stars and drink the oceans dry..." etc. etc. etc. BTW, I am descendent from very long ancestral lines in the Old South. When my ancestors were not forcing "indians" out of their homes they were forcing black slaves to help them get farming operations going on the lands acquired. I make neither an excuse or an apology for that, beyond this: The Indians my ancestors encountered were not like your aboriginies. They were large, powerful tribes built around violent warrior cults. Each tribe diffrent, with unique cultures, language, customs. They were well armed and were constantly making war upon one another and conquering and enslaving other tribes. We gave them nothing they were not giving each other before we got here. I regret the institution of slavery that the English government establish here and upon which my ancestors became dependent. But, for the most part, they worked their own land with their own hands, using slaves no more than was needed to get the work done. Few Southerners lived like Scarlet O'Hara, but their racism was wrong, their intolerance was wrong. I sincerely wish things could have been different, but we cannot improve the past, only the future.

No worries Stan, never really had any understanding of the whole Indian situation, just another arrow I quickly notched and fired. I am a decendant of free settlers (yeah not everyone was a convict) who squatted (illegally used) on land until such times as the government allowed them to purchase it. The eight acres is still in my family (grandmother) but due to a major falling out on my part with the family I don't think I will ever get to have it. I'm a ring tailed howler, an alligator horse. The way you treated the American Indians. i hear the Australian natives are having a lot of fun these days. What do you mean by that ? when Sydney hosted the olympics, i heard a lot of stories about how the Australian aboriginies were treated as second class citizens: given benefits officially, sure, but discriminated against in reality. maybe i heard incorrectly or maybe the stories were wrong. i certainly meant no offense to the country as a whole - i generally like what i know of .AU . I believe you'll find you wouldn't have been able to WATCH Neil hit the moon without our help though. yeah, i saw the movie :) the moon landing was possibly the greatest thing man has yet accomplished, whatever the reasons. almost every other great invention was driven by necessity. the moon landing was driven by pride, the desire to say "Hey! Look what we can do!" - something Americans are very big on. , but it is very much in poor taste to blow ones own trumpet really? how then does a site like this even exist? isn't the point of a site like this at least partially to say "Hey! look what i did!" ? -c ------------------------------ Smaller Animals Software, Inc. http://www.smalleranimals.com

Well the Alligator horse is extinct now. My ol' daddy was the last one. But I'm pretty sure my younger brother is at least part ring tailed howler.;) Talk about squatters, do you know what a "Sooner" was? Western Oklahoma was opened by "land runs" during the 1890's. That's where the prospective settlers line up, someone fires a gun, and everyone takes off in a mad rush for the land they want in a specified area. My Great-Granddaddy, Levi Emerson, was a cowboy who had worked Cattle on the Cheyenne-Arapahoe reservation of western Oklahoma. When that area opened in 1892, he and a bunch of his friends just hid out on the land they wanted and when they heard the crowd coming they jumped up, staked their claim and basically shot anyone who tried to do anything about it. Thus they were "Sooners" i.e. they got there sooner than was legal. Thats why Oklahoma is called the "Sooner" state. See? We even make heroes out of cheats!:)
