CodeProject Spam

Someone is grepping through all the POSTS on CodeProject and grabbing email address. I just got spamage directed to the meme@nopcode.com, which is ONLY used in the sig here at CodeProject. It's the Nigerian Bank Scam version, in case you care. The spam orignated from ipplanet.net / supernet300.net (which appear to have bogus contact info), ip address 81.199.84.54 Chris, you might want to take a look at your logs and see if anyone was sweeping the forums from that ip address block, and if so, consider blocking them from connecting (I'm sure that they are sucking up your already stressed bandwidth doing this).

One way to lessen your chances is to not put your email address in your sig, or if you do, enter it as character codes rather than letters.

There's very little I can do to stop people email mining if you put your actual email address in posts. I make a point of never, ever showing anyone's email address anywhere but apart from that there's very little I can do. Also, IP blocking works for about the amount of time they take between site mines. Just ask Colin how easy it is to spoof an IP address :( cheers, Chris Maunder

Why are you putting your e-mail address on the web? Spambots routinely crawl to collect them.

It encodes it to character codes... &#XX; ...where XX is the character code. For instance, & would be & , because 38 is the character code for & .
