 So you're happier than a 6 year old with a new train set huh? Looking forward to seeing the results.

Megan, welcome back from your trip to Sweden. Guess you have been back a while now. Hope you had fun. I had exchanged a few messages with you about lengthy (I forget the correct terms :-) ) exposures. I decided to go back and do a few more. Grrrrrrrrr, now I realized why I did only 1 minute exposures in the past. The damn camera does not have a shutter lock (if I can call it that) in bulb mode. So I have to stand there with my finder on the shutter button pressed. Try doing that for an hour or more..... Now I have to go buy a remote. That better have the ability to lock the shutter open else I am going to call Minolta and scream. The little details one can overlook when buying a camera. My 20 year old Yashica would let me do that, I figured it would be a standard feature on any new SLR..... grrrrr, wrong. Oh well......

Nice camera. My brother got one a few days after they came out and LOVES it. The thing is damn heavy, but a great camera. Much nicer than my Canon PowerShot G2. Did you buy a few microdrives? :) --- "This isn't right. This isn't even wrong." -Wolfgang Pauli (1900 - 1958), on a paper submitted by a physicist colleague

Lol! I wonder how those will come out - probably rather blurry :) My 1978 Ricoh doesn't have a lock, but it does have a screw in thingy on the button which takes a cheap but specially made cable which locks - does yours have something like that? This is one thing that DSLR's will have a problem with until the battery capacity increases. I'm waiting to get back a 5,5 hour exposure of star trails from Sweden (thanks, we had a lovely time, more if you click the blog link in my sig :) ) which would be impossible on DSLR's at the moment. Even the newer film camera's cannot do this as their battery's run out. I love old camera's for that  Still, I can't wait for the battery power to increase (or maybe even cigarette lighter chargers - then you could park the car next to the tripod and keep the power feed going!). When you get your shots developed please post them :)

The Minolta has a connection for a wired remote control. Minolta makes two remotes. I believe the only difference between the two are the length of the wire. The problem is that I cannot find any specs on them wrt whether they have the shutter lock. I went to a few stores but they don't carry the remote. They said they can order one. Online stores don't provide this detail. So I am left with just one option: buy it and hope it does what I want.

That's pretty bad - don't the people at your local camera shop give advice? If not perhaps put the question on the forums at www.usefilm.com - someone there should know.

The D100 is about the same price, only $100 more here in Denmark. I actually looked at the D100, but decided to go with the EOS 10D instead... - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!" http://SourceLocker.net[^] SourceControl and DefectTracker Project. nsms@spyf.dk <- Spam Collecting ;)
