Hi everyone, This morning on the train put me over the top. I've had enough of listening to other people snore, talk on cell phones, listen to music on headphones that bleed out into the air, etc...Sometimes I can't think straight with all the noise. Anyway, on to my point. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good mp3 player? I'm looking for a viable alternative to an iPod, because they are so expensive, but I guess I'd go that way if I couldn't find anything else. I'm looking for: 1. A decent rechargable battery include. No AA's 2. USB 3. 5Gb or higher - none of those 128Mb players. Any suggestions?:) Marcus Spitzmiller "Why must life be so hard? I've been looking for a portable MP3 solution as well and I've found quite a number of interesting devices at Amazon. I know you specified 5GB or greater, but you can also get a CD player that decodes MP3s. --- "This isn't right. I just bought an RCA model RP2478 last night - CD/MP3 player with FM radio (this was my requirement). It works fine so far, radio reception is pretty good in some areas I've had problems before at. I don't use the stock earphones, I prefer the Sony earbuds I've had for a while. Technically, it's a "640Meg" player, since that's what a CDRW has, which is 10 hours of music. Price for me was a no-brainer - $55 vs $300+. YMMV.

iPod, nothing less than an iPod ... they even upgraded the capacity for the new iPods. I've been using it about 6 days/week for nearly 5 months and no problem. You can find an older 2nd generation iPod quite cheap these days. but, there's only one but in the base of the iPod, it's the battery life, only about 8 hours on a recharge; hoping with the next gen they will be using oled display to reduce battery strain.

I know it's not 5GB but RCA has a cool new 1.5GB solid state player for about $250. It has USB 2.0 which is cool too. I still like solid state players, I think I would be paranoid carrying around a delicate hard drive that cost me $500. I have a 128MB player with USB 1.X and that's the one thing I would change about it (i.e. USB 2). Joel VssConnect - Remote SourceSafe(r) Access http://www.voxcode.com[^]

I bought an Archos Jukebox Recorder, the 20 GB version, on Amazon for ~$200US. I have been very pleased with it. It has USB 2.0, 20 GB, 6-8 hours battery life, and you can even download some open source firmware for it if you like. ( I think it's called rockbox - Google it) The thing I like most about it though is you just plug it in and it looks like any other hard drive on your system, you don't need any special software to transfer MP3's and you can use whatever software you like to create them. This is all late and stuff (These threads move too fast!!) But I would say too Archos is THE BEST MP3 player I have ever owned (And I even had an iPod) the iPod is nice but it's too nice. The stainless steel and stuff gets mucked up too quick so I took it back and got the Archos that plays video too. (The older one) never looked back. Sound quality and battery life is great and it works well plus the price is right. The new Rio 20Gb looks really good too though but haven't tried it (The battery life is like 17Hrs)
