ANN: CodeStore Update

After much hard work by Paul Watson, a new site design is currently taking shape for CodeStore[^]. Movable Type (the blogging tool) is at the back-end of it all and as such the RSS feed has changed to: http://codestore.salamandersoftware.biz/index.rdf[^]. It has been a busy time for CodeStore recently with the #Develop[^] team asking me to port CodeStore across as a #Develop plugin. The next release of CodeStore has just entered the testing phase, so soon all you ASP.NET developers should be able to benefit from CodeStore, too. This release has been severely delayed whislt waiting to here from Chris about CodeStore and CodeProject working together. Which brings me nicely to my next point: Back in July I announced that I may make a commercial venture out of CodeStore. This is no longer the case (as I don't have the financial resources to support me while I do it) and I have offered the service to CodeProject, but wait to hear news from Chris Maunder. I will have to say I am confused by a few issues. 1) There appears to be more than one CodeStore. Just go to google. 2) What license do you release your "product" under? "For as long as I can remember, I have had memories. Colin Mochrie."

Hi Derek, A more appropriate place for such an announcement would have been the Press Release[^] page. As I've said, as soon as we open the gates to self-promotion of other websites announcements such as this we'll get flooded and I'm sure no one in the Lounge wants that. As to CodeStore itself I think it's a little unfair to publicly state that the "release has been severely delayed whislt waiting to here from Chris about CodeStore and CodeProject working together". I make no apologies for how snowed under I am running CodeProject, and also none about wanting to ensure that all decisions are made with the CodeProject community first and foremost. I'll put off some stuff today and give you a rundown of our thoughts, but I'll do this offline, not on the homepage of a website. cheers, Chris Maunder

However, technical skills don't bring you success. People skills do. You'll find that attempting to publicly embarrass and pressure the very person you're trying to solicit help from won't go very far towards building alliances. Chris, David and the others here have been tremendously successful largely due to their understanding of this most fundamental of principals. Technical proficiency is a prerequisite, but the magic is in how you interact with others. Even in his response to you, Chris put people first. If nothing else, you can gain tremendous benefits for your own site by observing how the successful people handle themselves and emulating them. Best of luck in your ventures, I'm sure you'll do well. Chris, It looks like I have some apologies to make :-O. Firstly, sorry for posting in the wrong place; I'll be sure to make any further announcements on the Press Release page. By all means move the message to where it should be (if for no other reason than to prevent me getting flamed even more ;)). Secondly, apologies for making it sound like you and the CP team were at fault. What I meant was that delays had occured as originally detailed on the development plan because I was waiting to hear from you before proceeding. I fully appreciate the workload involved in keeping our beloved CP ticking over.
