We don't get any exiting catastrophes up here in Toronto... :(( no earthquakes, tornados almost never happen, and even the hurricanes that you send up fizzle out to a squirrel fart before they reach us. For a while it looked possible that Isabelle could be a repeat of Hurricane Hazel, which killed 100 people in America before heading North to slaughter another 81 in Toronto, but alas. Now we're just forecasting a bit of rain... *sigh* The most exciting disaster I've been around for has been a blackout. (yet another problem sent up from the states... ;P) ;P Why is the phrase "It's none of my business" always followed by "BUT..." ;P
:~ You need to come visit where I live, in Xenia, Ohio. Out of three tornadoes since 1974, we've had 36 deaths, over 2000 injuries, and approximately 60% of the town destroyed. There are certain advantages to having limited meteorological excitement where you live.

Amazing photos... I was well impressed a few days back when it was at maximum strength, and I think it was the Weather Channel showed a loop where you could see four smaller areas of circulation rotating around the edge of the eyewall itself (apparently these are called mesovortices?)... That and the weatherman saying, "This is a storm powerful enough to steer the environment around it, instead of being steered by the environment"... Carl

The Daily show is consistently the best damn thing worth watching on TV. I get seriously bummed when they take a week (or two) off.
