Hi, A friend of mine is considering buying an iPod. One of the new "no-moving-parts" with a 20 GB HDD. However, we are not sure if it will work as a removable drive under Windows - anybody who knows ? And since you're reading this anyway - why not share your experiences with MP3 players as well. We'll be most gratefull... Actually I'm afraid it was me who talked him into getting a HDD player instead of one of these solid state flash things... Is that stupid ? I mean, 2.5" HDDs can take quite a lot of shocks, but flash cards are still better. On the other hand, flash memory has a limit on write-cycles... Anyway - let me know what you think. Thanks in advance - and enjoy your sunday. [edit] it's 01:04 AM here... [/edit] /Jan Do you know why it's important to make fast decisions? Because you give yourself more time to correct your mistakes, when you find out that you made the wrong one. Chris Meech on deciding whether to go to his daughters graduation or a Neil Young concert

Maybe it's worth waiting until Dell releases their alternative to iPod. They promise to do it before Xmas, and it will certainly be cheaper. Creative is coming with their own. Two my colleagues have iPod, and they are very happy with it. AFAIK they also use it as a removable drive under Windows. Вагиф Абилов MCP (Visual C++) Oslo, Norway Hex is for sissies. iPod is a hell of a great mp3 player, not without defaults, battery life is one thing. You can use it as a removeable HD if you want to; using it on PC with firewire access is great. haven't got any problem with it. iPod pros: looks, and package design. physical size HD size ( i have the 3rd gen. with 15 gig and it's great ) on board software, song navigation is great. soon will have AAC support for Windows. iTune Store. iPod cons : battery life, about 8 hours :( 3rd party software (musicmatch sucks big time, but I'm waiting for iTunes for Windows) playlists on the go gets erased when iPod is mounted on the PC. I never had a solid state mp3 player, not enough song capacity, maybe they can play for hours and hours, but playing only 256 or 512 megs of songs is not enough. have a look at www.ipodlounge.com [^]forums for more info.

I just ordered one of these after poking around the Internet trying to find a player that would use Type I Compact Flash cards. I have a bunch of CF cards because of my camera. You can also use a 1GB IBM microdrive in this device if you are worried about the 100,000 write cycle limit. http://www.bjorn3d.com/_preview.php?articleID=62[^] I’ve seen other reviews talking about some firmware issues but for 79 bucks its worth a shot. ($79 w/o any memory. You can get a 512MB CF card for $70 after rebate on Amazon.)

Personally, I think some of the best MP3 players out their are from the HIGHLY underatted Archos[^] I have the smaller Video MP3 player and it rocks. Sound quality is great, All kinda custom features and the price on them can't be beat. In fact this was what I traded my iPod in for and I am happy I did IMHO.

I don't have the iPod but I do have the Create Nomad Zen 2.0. And I use a program called NotMad Explorer(www.redchairsoftware.com[^]). They call the iPod version AnaPod[^]. They offer a free demo and the full version for an introductory price of $15 (regular $25) and this includes FREE lifetime updates. AnaPod interfaces with Windows Explorer so it is as easy as dragging and dropping your MP3 files. It also supports data file storage as well. If I were to get an iPod I would most definitely get AnaPod for the transfer interface. Kelly Herald Software Developer MPC
