Actually, only the links on MSDN (both the main articles and the Longhorn topic) and the few at the PDC. There is a fair amount of information under the Longhorn topic on the MSDN main page. Rocky <>< www.GotTheAnswerToSpam.com

Yeah, it shows a little of what is going on. Like the tile panel in Longhorn. Wonder how much all this will change by the release two years from now ;) I will agree to beating, whipping and biting, but please, no text editors, give me VS.NET ;) Rocky <>< www.GotTheAnswerToSpam.com

Now that all this information is coming out about Longhorn, I am already bored with .NET which was not the case a week ago. There is so much terrific stuff coming down the road, it is hard to keep focused on the current technology. Yes, I know, I am a geek. But I want it now! Anyone from Microsoft want to hire a geek to work with Longhorn? I will live in the office! You can beat me, whip me, bite me, as long as I can work on Longhorn :(( Rocky <>< www.GotTheAnswerToSpam.com

While the Longhorn UI sure has the "whoa, cool" factor, I still fail to see how XAML is the savior of all us poor misguided souls who write code presently. I understand that it's conceptually easier and might get more people into programming, but if you can't write code anyway, you're not going to be able to have the spiffy XAML-based UI do anything (except have clouds floating behind your alpha-blended edit boxes and buttons, whoopee). And with XAML, there's no way any serious programmer (aside from Don Box) is going to hand-code XML all day long and memorize all those tags and attributes. We're going to use a dialog editor. And once you do that, XAML is irrelevant. It doesn't matter what the dialog editor spits out (XML, C#, .rc files) as long as it compiles. --Mike-- Ericahist [updated Oct 26] | CP SearchBar v2.0.2 | Homepage | RightClick-Encrypt | 1ClickPicGrabber Actual sign at the laundromat I go to: "No tinting or dying."

From these comments it appears you are greatly missing the wide range of features in Longhorn. You need to see more than the MSDN TV episode. The XAML is only one small part and even it is a big step to help any programmers keep their code and GUIs apart. Seeing only the XAML portion of Longhorn is like saying .NET is only for building web services, you leave a LOT out. Rocky <>< www.GotTheAnswerToSpam.com

Penguin brains. They're good in so many ways: fried, sauteed, broiled, boiled and baked.

Sun. Given that most of the .NET framework and languages are straight rip offs off java. There doen't seem to be anything magical about any of the technologies its all been done before XUL for XAML, JDO for ObjectSpaces etc etc. Various OODB's for WinFS. If they can get it all integrated and working together them it might be usable (in a lowest common denominator kind of a way) for low performance apps (and i guess we are meant to buy ms products for everything else ;). here is a extract of a discussion board thread i had with them. Where is there some information on tree and table controls and their data models ? And the ability to make async (to the UI thread) changes and have them update the screen appropriately ? Subject: Re: tree and table control data models and async changes 10/28/2003 8:35 PM PST By:[](mailto:robertin@online.microsoft.com

Joey-- Unfortunately, we don't have an Avalon Tree control at this point, but recognize that it's an important one.
For table-like layout, you probably want to use GridPanel.
Check it out in the SDK here: http://longhorn.msdn.microsoft.com/?//longhorn.msdn.microsoft.com/lhsdk/layout/tasks/gridpanel_simplegrid.aspx
Making changes in the UI thread requires acquiring the UIContext associated with the UI (element, etc.) that you want to update.
                          A UIContext is the )

The information I have been seeing is mostly on thier site along with screen shorts For resources, Microsoft has a list of them already online at MSDN under the Topics section of thier main page. It has a few more resources. Another place I frequent is: http://www.winsupersite.com/[^] Rocky <>< www.GotTheAnswerToSpam.com
