I get nervous every time I see a "Matrix ... " subject. I don't want to spoil it as it's the last of the series, and I want to enjoy as much as possible at the cinema. So the deal is; no Matrix talk within 14 days? Or at least tag your subjects with [Matrix] or something so that I will not read anything by mistake. :) -- Hell is from here to eternity.

I think he's referring to being considerate to those who can't, for some ungodly reason, see it opening weekend. You know, give them a couple weeks and don't ruin it. I'm sure many will see it within the weekend it comes out, despite the fact that many thought less of the 2nd one. Likes flies to the bug zapper we hand over our 50 bucks (movie passes for 2, popcorn and soda) though our previous experience said it was a bad idea. :) If a picture is worth a thousand words, the average word is worth 7 letters, and a letter is equal to about 10 pixels, how many photos could I trade in for one of those fancy flat monitors?

Aah, the first one sucks too. The whole friggin' world is based on the notion that you can get something for nothing, in the thermodynamic sense. I mean, you've got all these machines keeping people alive, feeding them slurry made from the dead bodies of other people. This is a reductionary system. Not only that, but does anyone know the incredible waste in turning that slurry into heat using a human body? My estimate is that about two to three percent of the energy in the slurry gets output as heat, and then even more is taken off the top in turning it back into electricity, even allowing for future advancements in superconductor tech, etc. Not only that, but they pan back and forth, showing you the untold billions of pods housing the whole planet's people. Any idea of the power outlay to make and manage all of that? All that expense to get a few megawatts out of those self-consuming bodies. Now, here's the kicker: no reason's ever given for the humans being left with their mental capacity. I mean, these super-smart machines don't need the people to do their processing, obviously; most of them seem to be caught up in meaningless bureaucratic jobs, pushing papers and the like. Even allowing for hard problems being parallelized and transposed into a symbolic form for the people to process as if they were just totalling up spreadsheets, the fact remains: no processing is done by an average person in totalling up a spreadsheet that can be transposed into a solution of a hard problem. No, these jobs are just to keep the schmucks busy. And why, when the machines could just pith the whole bunch? Does that sound like cold, hard machine logic? The mindless bodies would be just as good at producing heat. And don't even start saying, any of you, that you think the hogwash spouted by the old dude in the second movie makes sense. I asked a lot of awestruck people as they were leaving the theater what all that bullcrap meant, and everybody said things like, "Er, well, ya know... um. Ya know." Regards, Jeff Varszegi

Hmm, you sound like you belong with this fun-loving group of people: Movie Physics I can suspend disbelief with the best of them, but any movie I go to see should have a coherent plot that works within the boundaries of the movie itself. Matrix 1 had this, Matrix 2 did not. If we're going to compare sequels that were differnt from 1 to 2, then Alien and Aleins is a fine example of two very different movies set within the same realm, with each standing alone.
