The ability to dynamically generate our own licence keys was one of our criteria although I ended up not doing it that way :rolleyes: I'd be interested in hearing more about what you're using and what your friend is working on. For various reasons, protection is not so much of an issue for Awasu but I'd still like something a bit better than what we are using now.

You'd want to confirm this in their FAQ but an O/S transfer is USD $40 (What's an ACH? I think they refer to the transfer as a "wire transfer". They asked for my bank's SWIFT number which I had never heard of before). While that strikes me as remarkably high, it seems to be about standard :-( Their new payment system offers free bank transfers within the US, IIRC.

I use both DigiBuy and ShareIt! and am happy with both. DigiBuy's cut is a bit more, but their electronic delivery system is fantastic. Everything is controlled by me. I can upload a new version of my software and it's immediately available to customers. I signed up with ShareIt! years ago to handle European customers who wanted to pay with Eurocheques, and keep using them as a backup. If somebody writes and says they have a problem with DigiBiy I can send them to ShareIt! and vice versa.

We've been using Shareit.com for years http://www.shareit.com[^] Decent rates, offices in Germany and the U.S. to handle customers properly world-wide, they are very professional, very large and we've never had any problems with them of any kind. They truly understand what it takes to provide proper services in different countries with different currencies, taxes etc, most of the U.S. based ones are strictly U.S. oriented. Most others don't even have the ability to set a do not sell to list for countries that have export restrictions, shareit does.

Interesting topic. I have been searching for month to find a service that can send out registration keys that are not made out of some numbers and letters. No one is able to use a tool provided by the client (that would be the author) to generate the keys. Does someone know a service that can handle this? Jürgen cpicture.de

I've been looking at this as well. http://www.swreg.org[^] supposedly enable you to use your own license key generator or your Web server. Others let you provide them with code they run on their site to generate keys. The bigger players have this. Another option is to send the license key yourself. This could be automated so when you receive an order confirmation email from the provider you process that, extract the required customer details, generate the license key and email it to the customer. Hi Taka, I'm the friend of Neville's. Too busy coding to watch these forums at the moment, so Nev was kind enough to prompt me about your interest. Our new product is close to release and will initially provide licensing and customer relationship management (FYI: you need automated customer relationship management to do licensing well). Later (early 2004) we'll be providing "unique to your application", heavy duty software protection; protects your software from crackers. Licensing is for protecting against normal thieves, software protection is for protecting against crackers. We also plan to interface (one way or another) to automatic payment processors. Initially, the licensing features will work with C/C++ (and PHP). Drop me a mail if you want to get involved in our early release program (ie. start using it now :rolleyes: ). I'm using a License key generator that Russell wrote for TTMaker (see his reply). I then read all I could find on cracking and implimented a range of techniques to make it difficult for the most crackers. I also have a limited activation period for license keys, so if they do somehow get onto a warez site they are next to useless. This creates some pain for my customers and me, but is the way to go IMO. It also boosts sales where multiple copies are in use within a company. Email me if you want to know more details.
