The button is gone and a pink thing is in its place. The FAQ gives some crazy "security" reason as to why it is only allowed once. And then tells me how to go around it and try again to download it. It is downloading again... Back to my little puzzle.... I am going to try and google for "Koninklijk Luchtvaartmaatschappij" It asked if I wanted to add an "e" onto the end of "Koninklijk"... Well... Why not? :omg: Lots of pages about KLM... KLM = Koninklijke Luchtvaartmaatschappij (Dutch for "Royal Airline" therefore "Royal Dutch Airline") That's one of life's little mysteries solved and I'm not as close to downloading this Sun Office thingy than I was before. --Colin Mackay--

I'm downloading at 350.3 kb/s - doesn't seem too slow to me... [edit] Download took 4m 57s for 109.89 Mb - however I don't know for certain that I was downloading from Sun, my download request may have been invisibly redirected to Sunsite at Imperial. [/edit]

I haven't used StarOffice since version 5.1, but do use OpenOffice. And, for the most part, i like it. The spreadsheet and preso bits are ok, though i don't use either enough to have much of an opinion. But the word processor bit is quite nice. There are two things it's had for years now, that seem to have taken MS ages to latch onto: make it easy to use styles, and make it easy to edit styles. Also, the new "export to PDF" feature rocks, and i could possibly see the preso proggy's "export to SWF" feature doing well also. One thing to note about SO/OO - one of its most useful features is being able to open and save MS-Office documents, and this will generally work flawlessly. Not always, however. There are occasional situations where X won't come through as it should, and although these seem more and more rare with each new version, that doesn't help you when you suddenly need to edit a document with X. Overall, i recommend it, especially if you need to collaborate with people using Office, but don't want the bullshit that installing the latest versions entail. Z

I use OpenOffice 6.1 on all my machines. Loading is a bit slow on older machines, but other than that it's fine - it does everything I need and it's free. I also find the built in bibliography really useful.

Well I'm using OpenOffice too (http://www.openoffice.org[^]). I don't have any major problems with it but it's damn slow (at least for me) - takes ages to load, and it displays colors incorrectly in pictures in some word documents. rado

I am quite happy with it. It is a bit slower than the MS package, but that is expected, I think. Other than that, it is really ok. Why not give it a whirl? Pankaj Without struggle, there is no progress

Well, now that I've got it downloaded, I've been struggling with it all evening. And so far there is no progress. It is put together with no thought to the rest of the system around it. Its word processor is confusing because Windows has called a .txt file a "text document" since windows 95. The user interface is not quite so intuitive. The Paragraph styles tool box cannot be docked so it interferes with the document unless I close it, but I can keep the similar feature in word open and docked. The whole interface has a kind of mid-90s feel about it. And other than the really slow download it keeps crashing. On the whole I am thoroughly underwhelmed. --Colin Mackay--
