Firstly - apologies for posting here - but getting DESPERATE NOW!!! Am an experienced developer (VB / C++), but was made redundent in October. Since then have been doing some .NET contracting on an informal basis for a local company, but am not keeping the wolves from the door. Have signed on with most of the agencies, been for several interviews but no joy...... Do any UK CPians know of any leads....do the usual dev stuff mainly on the front end and DB tier, but will consider anything (have even applied for a lecturing job)... If anyone wants my CV, then feel free to mail me at RichardGrimmer@hotmail.com "Now I guess I'll sit back and watch people misinterpret what I just said......" Christian Graus At The Soapbox

On the subject of CV's, I've been advised to spruce mine up a bit. I want to do something really flashy that I can store on my web site, either for online browsing or printing. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Employeers don't tend to have time to look at people's web-sites to read their cv's. And they don't tend to google for employees either. 2. Keep it simple and business like, the aim is to present a professional image. ProffK wrote: Any pointers would be appreciated. Post a link and I'll have a look at your existing CV and see if I can see why you need to "spruce" it up a bit. There are entire counties in the UK where no developer job has been advertised for years. Have you considered teacher training? You say you applied for a lecturing job? That is pretty poorly paid compared to an IT teacher. I don't know if that is relevant to your situation though. If you are getting desperate you may have to consider another career.

If you end up at a bad school the students will take out their economic deprivation on you. The test is if you can stand outside the school for 10 minutes without seeing, or being in, a fight. In the UK they give you free money to be a teacher. They do that to get good people in. That is the theory.

Have you checked this post[^] here on CodeProject? It looked interesting to me, but it's in the UK and the commute would be difficult.
