I can't believe news orgs are coving the XP release live. MY GOD. It is just another operating system, not the second coming of Unix! :) After we kill all the lawyers, let's kill all the marketing people. :) Tim Smith Descartes Systems Sciences, Inc.

I can't believe news orgs are coving the XP release live You reckon part of the $1 billion set aside for marketing XP includes "persuading news org's to cover the launch live" ? News org's are hardly the bastions of truth, justice and peace for all :) It is just another operating system, not the second coming of Unix LMAO! Hypocrite! So if Unix XP was being released then it would be ok to cover it live? LOL *shakes my head* typical regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass Cape Town, South Africa "The greatest thing you will ever learn is to love, and be loved in return" - Moulin Rouge "In other words, the developer is dealing with an elephant, the accountant is dealing with a bunny rabbit." by Stan Shannon - 16/10/2001

I can't believe news orgs are coving the XP release live. Not over here (UK) they're not. I only had to put up with Mini-Me enthusing about it once on the radio, and that was it. No TV adverts so far either...which always makes me wonder what the ad-men are up to... As Douglas Adams said in The Book: "They'll be the first up against the wall when the Revolution comes". :-D Andy Metcalfe - Sonardyne International Ltd

I saw it on the TV, too. What you have to consider is that a/ it's these sort of things that make our industry appear sexy, and b/ without them the average shmoe would have no idea XP was about ( of course the average joe is unlikely to upgrade, he still runs W95 on his 486 ). Here they had a 'leading analyst' saying there was no reason to upgrade. I doubt he's even *seen* it, there must be a bajillion reasons to upgrade. How about id3 tag info in Explorer if you turn on details ? Or a really sexy taskbar ? Or a cool new wallpaper ? OK, I admit they are not worth $400, but I love XP anyhow - it's YUMMY !!! Speaking of yummy, is Dark Angel still being made ? I don't watch it but I like seeing ads for it, because they always have that chick in them. I used to be involved with a historical re-enactment group and I've still got the kit (and with a bit of practice to dust the rust off, the skill to use 'em). At the last count the weaponry included:

                            • Two 15th century polearms (a halberd and a winged spear)
                            • A Celtic spear
                            • 3 swords (Viking, Medieval and Landsknect)
                            • 2 daggers (both Medieval)
                            • A buckler
                            • Viking mail and helmet
                            • 15th Century armour
