Not sure - earliest one I know of is the short story 'A Sound of Thunder' by Ray Bradbury, and it was a butterfly in that. (Google says it was published in 1952).

Did humanity get wiped-out in that one? The one I remember is about a hunting party going back to 'bag' a T-rex just prior to its original death. Things go awry and they come back to find that Germany had prevailed in WWII? And that's when one of them notices a butterfly on the bottom of his shoe. Of course, I may be thinking of an 'Outer Limits' episode instead of a book. >>>-----> MikeO

They were dinosaur hunting in the story; I definitely remember it being made into an Outer Limits episode, which sounds like the one you mention. Here's the story: A Sound Of Thunder[^]

Nope, that was a different story. The episode was one of the Halloween specials and it was titled something like 'Time and Time again' or 'Homer in Time' or something cheesy like that. On another note, the episode Amazing Story that Hell Toupee was based on was on earlier. But the funny thing is that the name was not changed at all. :confused:
