Hey everyone, I am looking to use a web browser other than IE. I am currently using mozilla and I am trying out the firebird today. Does anyone have any ideas about some good browsers out there? Something that may be alittle better than mozilla or firebird. Those are nice, but they seem to load pages kind of slow.....Thanks everyone! :-D

why the need for change ? what features are you looking for ? I always try new versions of mozilla and firebird and opera, but after a few hours, I always returned to IE, it works ok for me, and with the addition of the google and codeproject toolbars, my life is complete, browser wise.

I have been having problems with IE constantly crashing. It crashes with specific websites. Very odd, so I figured to just give up on it and find something new! It seemed to crash after I installed Visual Studio 6

I'm hooked on the gestures in Mozilla. (I'm even toying with the idea of adding them to VS.net) I've also loaded the load in IE extension so it's really easy to load IE for the pages that require it. I tried Opera (I really liked the native gesture support) for a while, but the version I tried handled bad HTML worse then Mozilla. -Andy Brummer

Mozilla and Firebird come with an initial refresh of 250 ms, I believe; which causes the slow load perception. I think it has to do with performance for users on a slow internet. You can change that, although I don't remember what entries need to be changed. Thomas My article on a reference-counted smart pointer that supports polymorphic objects and raw pointers

I know that if you type about:config in the browser the configuration comes up. I just dont know what to change to have it speed up alittle faster.:-D

                  1. Open Mozilla (Firebird (FireFox)) 2) Type "about:config" (less the quotes) in the address bar, and hit enter 3) Scroll down until you see "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" - double-click on this and change it to 0 4) Restart Mozilla (Firebird (FireFox)) Provided you have a fast connection (and are loading websites that aren't bandwidth-challenged), you should notice a slight but noticeable change in the speed at which pages appear.

Well, if you're on a slow connection (either because of your line or the server being swamped), the page will redraw more than what is really useful while loading. Consider the CodeProject forums: IE will generally sit for a good long while showing nothing but a blank white screen, then finally display the complete page. Mozilla will render the page as it loads, reflowing as necessary. On days when CP is fast, that slight delay means you never have to watch the forum "build" in front of you - it just appears complete. On most days, it's kinda nice to read the posts that have loaded while waiting for the rest. ;)
