Hi all, The front page of BBC shows a pic of a woman priest. We don't have women priests in the churches in our city [I am not a Christian but I have gone to churches]. Are women priests common in other places? Cheers Smitha Every person, all the events of your life, are there because you have drawn them there. Although the Bible specifically states that women cannot be 'priests', many 'christian' organisations 'ordain' women. You'll note my use of quotes. I know of no 'church' that has priests, and also in any way represents the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Yes, a lot of people ordain women as priests, but they mostly are so far removed from the Bible that it wouldn't matter if they ordained sheep. On the other hand, there are groups who would use the Bible to oppress women, and they are also wrong. Women are not inferior to men in the church, they simply have a differing role. Christian I have drunk the cool-aid and found it wan and bitter. - Chris Maunder

Smitha Vijayan wrote: Can you make that clearer? Sure - the message that Jesus preached is a world away from the 'message' presented by churches like the Anglican, Catholic, etc., which are the groups that appoint 'priests'. Many groups that appoint 'pastors' are equally flailing in the dark, I'm not drawing a line based on priests/pastors/elders/whatever. Smitha Vijayan wrote: On what grounds? Misogyny I guess.... Simple - a nun does not preach, or hold communion, or in any other way involve herself visibly in the administration of a church. Christian I have drunk the cool-aid and found it wan and bitter. - Chris Maunder

It could be said that all who submit to Christ are priests: 1 Peter 2:4-6[^] Rev 1:5-7[^] But Jesus is the High Priest. It's like the term "saints", all christians are saints, yet the Catholic Church has made it into a special designation. I have a problem with ministers being called Reverend or Father. Those terms are reserved for God only.

I went 8 years to a Roman Catholic School and the Sisterhood at the time was the Sisters of Mercy[^] "In what kinds of ministries or jobs might you find Sisters of Mercy? Sisters of Mercy serve in a broad range of ministries: Sisters are doctors, nurses, healthcare technicians, chaplains, clinical and pastoral ministers, lawyers, paralegals, lobbyists, legal advocates, teachers, professors, librarians, counselors, case managers, social workers, and secretaries. Sisters serve as CEO's, CFO's, COO's; directors, coordinators, supervisors, administrators. Many sisters completed their education before entering the community and continue to pursue careers in the disciplines in which they were educated. Other sisters have changed ministries several times in the course of their religious lives." FAQ[^] In the Roman Catholic faith, tradition, including traditional roles are hard to break unless it is necessary to benefit the community as a whole, imo. I have never seen a female Catholic Priest before here in the states, not that I wouldn't be opposed to the idea nor really a proponent. Just call me traditional.:) Later, JoeSox "Making the world safe for hypocrisy." - Thomas Wolfe joeswammi.com ↔ humanaiproject.org ↔ joeswammi.com/sinfest

Sisters are called Mothers and sometimes Mother Superiors right? And I remember sisters referring to the Mother Superior in our school convent as "Mother Superior Reverend Sister Renitta..." Smitha Every problem has a gift for you in its hands. -- Richard Bach
