Of course they currently have that right but what concerns them is the recent change that eliminates (AKA partial birth abortion) the right to suck the brains out of an unborn child to effect an abortion. HUGHES: Well, Wolf, it's always an issue. And I frankly think it's changing somewhat. I think after September 11th the American people are valuing life more and realizing that we need policies to value the dignity and worth of every life. And President Bush has worked to say, let's be reasonable, let's work to value life, let's try to reduce the number of abortions, let's increase adoptions. And I think those are the kind of policies that the American people can support, particularly at a time when we're facing an enemy, and really the fundamental difference between us and the terror network we fight is that we value every life. It's the founding conviction of our country, that we're endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights, the right to life and liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Unfortunately our enemies in the terror network, as we're seeing repeatedly in the headlines these days, don't value any life, not even the innocent and not even their own.
isn't it odd that the President's chief bootlick just conflated abortion with Islamist terrorism ? isn't it odd that there is apparently no topic that BushCo won't try to tie to 9/11 ? of course it's not odd. 3,000 people died so BushCo can run a jingositic bloody-shirt campaign that calls half the country un-American. and just watch their supporters eat it up. I'm always rather disturbed at men getting involved in this argument. What do men know about carrying a child or giving birth? I am a man and I'm really VERY glad that I don't have to endure a pregnancy, either planned or otherwise. Personally I don't much like the idea of abortion but I don't have the right to tell someone else that they must carry an unwanted pregnancy to term. It may well be repugnant to abort a foetus at 24 weeks or later but if you're 16 and facing a life of penury trying to bring up an unwanted child in a hostile world what else can you do? (answers, please, on a postcard...) Mark, London.

Mike Gaskey wrote: That 500,000 to 800,00 women march[^] to protect their right to kill? I think you have a small typo there. It should read protect their right to choose. Protect their right to determind their own fate. Protect their right to be full and equal members in society. Maybe Bush and co. would like to see women bare foot and pregnant and weighed down with a cluster of children because then they won't be able to make it to the polls to vote democrat. If Bush cared about children he'd fund education properly, if he cared about children he'd make sure that poor single mothers didn't have to work 3 minimum wage jobs leaving their children home alone just to put food on the table and then blame them for how their kids turn out. If he cared about reducing abortion he'd insist on more sex education in schools and would be handing out condoms himself. But Bush doesn't care about women, children or abortion.

Great. But how do these youngsters get proper advice when they're scared and broke? How do they know where to go? Invariably it's kids from poorer families that have little or no access to the proper state authorities or facilities that get pregnant. It's all very sad. Mark

"And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun"Yeah, right. So you've had your 30 seconds of pushing and shoving and you want a say??? C'mon, most of the guys that 'cause' unwanted pregnancy couldn't give a flying doodah, much less care if the woman goes through the 9 months and has the child. Instead of trying to outlaw abortion why not spend that time and energy to persaude, cajole or plain old teach these kids not to have unprotected sex.
