I'm always rather disturbed at men getting involved in this argument. What do men know about carrying a child or giving birth? I am a man and I'm really VERY glad that I don't have to endure a pregnancy, either planned or otherwise. Personally I don't much like the idea of abortion but I don't have the right to tell someone else that they must carry an unwanted pregnancy to term. It may well be repugnant to abort a foetus at 24 weeks or later but if you're 16 and facing a life of penury trying to bring up an unwanted child in a hostile world what else can you do? (answers, please, on a postcard...) Mark, London.

Great. But how do these youngsters get proper advice when they're scared and broke? How do they know where to go? Invariably it's kids from poorer families that have little or no access to the proper state authorities or facilities that get pregnant. It's all very sad. Mark

Yeah, right. So you've had your 30 seconds of pushing and shoving and you want a say??? C'mon, most of the guys that 'cause' unwanted pregnancy couldn't give a flying doodah, much less care if the woman goes through the 9 months and has the child. Instead of trying to outlaw abortion why not spend that time and energy to persaude, cajole or plain old teach these kids not to have unprotected sex.

Yeah, why shouldn't a guy be able to force a woman to bare his child when a woman can't force a man to not completely disappear and leave her holding the baby, literally!

Well that's what Bush's completely ineffective and unrealistic abstinence programs are for. You'd think he'd would have learnt when he found that Texas oil refineries could not be trusted to voluntarily reduce emission that it would be unrealistic to expect teenage boys to do reduce their "emissions".

Of course they currently have that right but what concerns them is the recent change that eliminates (AKA partial birth abortion) the right to suck the brains out of an unborn child to effect an abortion. I've said this before: it's not the right to "kill poor little innocent babies". It's the right to have something removed from your body that you don't want there. Let's say you have a house with a yard and you take a walk outside. All of the sudden you find dog poop on the ground. You can either leave it there until it decomposes in a few days or weeks, or you can remove it immediately. You have the legal right to have it removed because the poop is in your house. Say your yard is not fenced in. This means that any animal could walk in and poop in it at any time. Should you now be forced to live with whatever poop is dropped in your yard? Let's say you put a fence in your yard and a dog still manages to break in, or perhaps your friend brings his dog for a visit and leaves you a nasty surprise. Guess what, you still have the right to remove the poop because it's inside your yard. Now you may say that a fetus is not the same as dog poop and you're right. But it doesn't change anything. If something goes into your yard (or your body) without your consent, you should have the legal right to remove it, EVEN IF DOING SO ENDS ITS LIFE. If you don't agree, what would you do if I break into your house in the middle of the night, connect myself to your liver, and tell you I have to stay connected to you for nine months or else I'll die? Oh, and you have to be gentle with me: no smoking, no drinking, no medicines, no streneous exercise, no falling, and of course, no dieting -- I'm always hungry! :-) Regards, Alvaro

That 500,000 to 800,00 women march[^] to protect their right to kill? Of course they currently have that right but what concerns them is the recent change that eliminates (AKA partial birth abortion) the right to suck the brains out of an unborn child to effect an abortion. What I find odd is when rednecks bomb abortion clinics, apparently willing to kill people who are husbands or wives, fathers or mothers, and claim to value life. I presume the same people cry for the rights of the maladjusted child that was not wanted and who is raised to know it after they have broken into their home and run off with their stuff, possibly stabbing their spouse on the way. It should read protect their right to choose. Protect their right to determind their own fate. Protect their right to be full and equal members in society. Maybe Bush and co. would like to see women bare foot and pregnant and weighed down with a cluster of children because then they won't be able to make it to the polls to vote democrat. If Bush cared about children he'd fund education properly, if he cared about children he'd make sure that poor single mothers didn't have to work 3 minimum wage jobs leaving their children home alone just to put food on the table and then blame them for how their kids turn out. If he cared about reducing abortion he'd insist on more sex education in schools and would be handing out condoms himself. But Bush doesn't care about women, children or abortion.

You've hit the nail on the head - abortion is only necessarly because women are, apparently, too stupid to figure out how birth control works. Christian I have drunk the cool-aid and found it wan and bitter. - Chris Maunder
