that was the size of the hard drive my first PC had. It eventually got to be too small so I had to keep backing stuff up onto CDs, which I went through at the weekend and sorted out. Its amazing how much crap I collected. Old Windows 95 apps, sound clips from films and TV shows, cheesy clipart... Why did I ever think this stuff would come in useful. If I had a better memory I would remember more.
Although many here have already one-upped me.. my first machine had one 5-1/4 floppy and a 30-meg harddrive. MS-DOS 3.3, CGA video card (could get a whopping 320x200 graphics mode with 4 colors!) Anyone remember the anomaly known as 1.2 meg floppies? They were 5-1/4 size, but could store 1.2 meg instead of the standard 360K. Of course, when 1.44 meg 3-1/2's came out not much later (or maybe around the same time??) 5-1/4's started disappearing. "Fish and guests stink in three days." - Benjamin Franlkin

Holy smokes. My first PC had a 20 MB HDD, 2 MB RAM, 720 KB Floppy. Crap that was a looooooong time ago.

im quite positive the c-16 wasnt 1mhz , since the c64 was 0.98 mhz ;) and the c16 must have been introduced a bit earlier (or?) //Roger
Actually the C16 is newer than the C64 It was based on the plus/4 wich had 64 K like the C64 the C16 was the smaller brother of the plus/4 and had only 16 K. I had one also with tapedrive I dunno what the processor speed was, but if you did a circle in basic (Its basic was more advanced than the C64 that was the only thing that was more advanced) you could see it being drawn esp if you would let it fill the circle also (draw first then fill it) Rutger

I don't remember the size of my first harddisk, but I do remember all the tapes I had for my old ZX81, which was my first computer. Then later on a Commodore 64, for which I actually got a floppy drive) and even later, a PC ;) - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!" The first computer I owned also had 40 MB of hard disk space, and 2 MB of RAM. It was SOOO MUCH space that the HD was even split in two 20 MB partitions. It had Windows 3.0, which used a big part of one partition, around 6 MB. But I remember when I got a 800 MB HD (some years later) and I thought that would be enough for all my needs for the next 20 years. My first computer was a Toshiba MSX. I seem to remember the only place I could get games for it was a market in Blackpool (UK seaside town, popular holiday destination). When that died I got a C64 (after the home shopping catalogue sent that instead of a Spectrum by mistake). And then... my first PC. :) If I had a better memory I would remember more.

:laugh: Mine had 1 kB of RAM, too, but it stored long term data on paper tape. Of course, to do that much I had to design and build the interface card to talk to the tape punch...:-O I eventually upgraded it to have 16 kB of RAM, though - plenty for any practical use.;) Some people think of it as a six-pack; I consider it more of a support group.
