Agree or disagree with the subject/header statement, but it continues to amaze me how often I run into VC++ developers online who have never heard of CP, I know CP has only circa 22,000 registered users, but I'm continually amazed at the developers posting questions in NG's and other forums who don't know that the answers lie buried in CP, Sure you can find stuff on CodeGuru also but the search engine keeps on repeating itself etc. I guess not only am I a CP addict but I'm a CP evangelist also, But I shouldn't need to be. In the first lesson of any VC++ or even C++ course held at a Uni, The first bit of the first lecture, should be extolling the virtues of CP, instead of lecturers and teachers trying to peddle there own texts etc. Anyhow wouldn't it be great if CP could crack the 50,000 mark on or before its third birthday. I know some of you or maybe most of you fellow CPians think I'm nuts, and are complaining about more server stress etc. But unfortunatly there is only 22,000 of us CPians registered and it would go a long way to making MS et al.. listen to CP the bigger the community grows. I realise 4 or 5 CPians like Paul Watson are actually VBers in disguise or C# weirdos like Chris, but its cool to have them here for the diversity and humour we can have at there expense. Yes I completely switch to shrine of CP. It helped me numerous times and I've been frowarding articles to my co-workers. Faitfully yours, Alex.

I agree with you Colin. Its truly amazing how a lot of people go searching for stuff like buttons-with-colors on google, when all they have to do is go to the button controls section on CP. Of course basically google search results will point back to CP, but they simply add one more routing point. In fact Mike Dunn's FAQ by itself should be a problem-solver for most newbie programmers. Ok, well now that you have seen the light Aleksander. Visit more, and post more messages, I note that was only your second message, Alexsander, well we all have to start somewhere, who knows oneday you might take the lead from Christian Gauss,(a pretty hard task). Yeah, today (Friday) 3 PM I posted the CodeProject address to my coworkers, and by 4 PM when I left, my mailbox was full of "Thank you so much" messages. I was surprised that so many Win32 C++ programmers don't know about CP :suss: I vote pro drink :beer:

Most programmers I meet are very defensive of their programming language but you do not seem to take VB jokes personally. I just want to thank you for having a sense of humor.

At the root of that is the simple fact that languages, and even deeper, computers are simply a tool for me. If I used a Hammer and someone called it a stupid Hammer then I would just laugh and carry on using it till my job was done, or I found another Hammer which did the job better. That first Hammer would not have much significance to me, it is just a Hammer. Same with computers. They are just computers, a tool, nothing more. I found out one day long ago that if I want my dreams to come true then I have a better chance with computers than with say being an architect or a film producer. So bottom line is that I use computers for my own end, my own goals. IMHO most developers are a tad too attached to their computers. Sure if they want to be then thats fine and I have no right to diss it. But then they should not expect the same of me. And if you are thinking "Then why do you come to CP?" the answer is; The characters, those wonderful people on here. Also the chance for me to maybe, with my limited knowledge and experience, help out some others who struggled through the same path as I. Oh, and I talk a lot of shit most of the time, that helps a lot :-D Do you feel any special tug-o-heart towards your language of choice? What is it? Why? i think i'm one of only two or three people in my office (30 developers maybe) who know about CP or CGuru. it amazes some of my co-workers how fast i can come up with code to do this or that. when they ask where i got it, i tell them "www.codeproject.com". but i don't think they listen. -c
