I'm beginning to suspect these questions are asked to give us a chance to kiss there a$$. Q: Why do you want to work for us? A: That's because you're company is the leading pioneer in so and so technology, and for the chance to work under so and so great manager and may I polish your shoes now? X|

Cause to me its like a no win situation. You say your week at doing so in so and if thats what they are looking for your screwed, then if you don't say your week at anything they know your a lier. So say something that could also be perceived as a strength. Something like you don't trust other developers, or you prefer to derive your own solutions to problems rather than blindly taking somebody's results, or you find it a bit difficult to understand a lot of the fancier language constructs so your code is usually pretty simple (read: 'easy to debug and maintain' - managers care more about that than fancy constructs). There's plenty of things you can say :) No, I'm not saying these are brilliant examples - they just came to me at the time ;) Remember, what you perceive as a weakness may not necessarily be perceived as a weakness by other people, and above all, be truthful because honesty can get you a long way in the selection process.

I agree, I always tell people "I'm irresistable to women" when I'm asked this question. Michael Martin Australia "I controlled my laughter and simple said "No,I am very busy,so I can't write any code for you". The moment they heard this all the smiling face turned into a sad looking face and one of them farted. So i had to leave the place as soon as possible." - Mr.Prakash 24/04/2004

I hate the question they always ask me.. Sir do you know that one of your shoes is white and the other one is black? But seriously the question I hate most is what are your Weeknesses. Yea, that's my worst question as well. You always have to say something like "Sometimes I am reluctant to delegate work to other team members" or other vague management-talk. Of course, you could always say your weakness is the correct spelling of the word 'weakness'....:laugh: John[^]

.....Where do you see yourself in 3-5 years time? I hate that question! And I always find myself getting caught offguard when they ask that question, even though I know they will ask that. It's just that I can't seem to get the right answer for it. I mean, I know where I want to be in 3-5 years time, doing what I like best, coding. But I always get the feeling that it's not going to be a good enough answer so I choke up.:sigh: So, what's the interview questions you hate the most?

The one that I hate the most is, "Tell me, what are your weaknesses?" Saying "I have no weaknesses!" is very egotistical, but shows confidence. I guess the merit of that answer depends on who is interviewing you. You also don't want to be too modest and reel off a laundry list of faults, thus talking yourself out of a job. After all these years, I still don't have an answer that I am comfortable with. The question caught me by surprise once and my reply was, "I work too hard sometimes". :~ Gary Kirkham A working Program is one that has only unobserved bugs He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose. - Jim Elliot Who you are in Christ

I'm am a real jerk when I ask this question. If they say they don't want to be a manager, I ask them why wouldn't they want my boss' (or my, I'm a lead) job. Tim Smith I'm going to patent thought. I have yet to see any prior art.

My answers.... Giving you your pink slip ( layoff ). Winning the lottery and telling you to shove it. With your wife under my desk. Question that I don't like is do you work well alone or in a group? Seems that you have to phrase your answer very carefully to make sure you cover that you do both well.
