I've recieved a few emails from some who have been unable to log in. I am still settling back in and am working through a pile of emails and submissions, but I am looking into the problem. I've never seen the problem, nor been able to replicate it, so to help me sort it out could I ask those who have experienced continuing problems with the sign in process to please email with the following: - email address used for signing in - Browser and OS - Cookies and javascript enabled on your browser? - 'Remember me?' box checked or unchecked? - Method of logging in (login at the top left of a page, main login page, or quick login form in the message composition page. Also, could you please let me know if the problem is one in which you can login, your name appears in the top left, but when you post messages it says you are not logged in (or maybe you have been able to post messages but then suddenly you are no longer logged in). Over the weekend we are moving to a new webfarm that we hope will alleviate some congestion and speed things up a little. Thanks for you patience, Chris

Well, fortunately I had a logged in session. So this time, I was spared the misery. But I presume, there is a problem, as can be guessed from the relatively quiet situation here on CP. It's just that this time the sufferers are calm unlike last time when one of the sufferers made a big fuss ;-) Nish Sonork ID 100.9786 voidmain

Very true. A stable 33.6 kbps is better than an unstable 56 kbps that gets cut every now and then. Nish Sonork ID 100.9786 voidmain

I've NEVER seen a true 56k link to anything. 56k is a scam. The absolute best I've ever seen is 33k, and that was only once in a great while. Most of the time, it was 29.4 or so. And yeah, any analog dial-up is slow. "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001

Are you sure BT didn't invent 56k modems? Our NTL line peaks out at about 48k (it's usually about 44k), and only occasionally drops down to 33k. I get the impression that a lot depends on the ISP too - some seem to connect at higher rates than others, even over the same line. Having said that, we don't use it that often anymore since we've now got an NTL cable modem (512k). :-D Andy Metcalfe - Sonardyne International Ltd

According to that little ballon that Windows shows me when I've [finally] connected: 25.2 Kbps Out of that I can average almost 8 uploading and 4 downloading. :(( ________________ David Wulff http://www.davidwulff.co.uk "I loathe people who keep dogs.
