In two weeks I'm off again. My company sends me and two co-workers down to Mainz. Not for two or three days like every month, no, I have to go there for the whole damn week. That means I can spend four stupid evenings in a boring hotel room (don't say I could go into town, Mainz sucks). No piano (I have to check the hotel bar for one, otherwise my fingers might forget all the melodies), no internet (dial-up from a hotel account is too expensive), and at home my mother will have to feed my canary birds (they'll be soooo lonely without me). On friday I'm going to spend my birthday on an ICE train going home. That's the only positive thing - I can avoid all those stupid "Happy Birthday" greetings while sitting in a nice air-conditioned train heading for Hannover. Usually I work on CodeProject articles when I'm bored in the hotel-evenings. But at the moment I'm not working on any article. What shall I write about... Give me a topic! About what do you want me to write my next article?

Hmmmm... Try to power up your laptop while sitting in the train. 'Device manager found a new device 'ICE 3'. Press any key to finish installation. After reboot, you may use the device... Then come anlong. I'm living in an old train station only 200km away. Sure you will get a birthday cake and coffee here. ;-) dirk

Device manager found a new device 'ICE 3'. *install... reboot...* Now you can use 'ICE 3'. *open control panel... open ICE3 tool...* Welcome to the 'ICE 3' control component. Please select the stations and click 'OK'. You can configure the speed with the tray icon. *click OK...* Ah, there is a new 'ICE' icon in the task tray! When I move the mouse over it...a trackbar control appears and lets me choose a speed value from 0 to 300. Cool feature! Suddenly a message box appears on my screen: 'Tunnel Warning: Monitor brightness will switch to maximum in ten seconds.' In the middle of the tunnel another message box pops up: "ICE 3 has detected MapPoint 2004 on your system. Do you want to install the routing connector component?" *click YES...* MapPoint opens and thereis a new button in the tool bar: 'Add new train station' *click the button... place a train station somewhere* The train brakes and stops somewhere in the country. The new train station works! Again I drag the speed selector up to 300 km/h... Trains can be fun, as long as no other passenger got the same 'ICE 3' driver :-D:-D

'ICE 3' has executed an illegal instruction and will shut down. Stack trace: JMP Blieskastel <-- don't know how to jump HLT Oberdoppelriesenmist (engl. Sh**f**k)

Corinna John wrote: DB.Railroad.TrackException occurred in 'ICE 3' at ICE3Controller.EnterSaarland() You got it. I really never had a chance to use an ICE, every time I tried my connection trains came late. Why do yopu think Mainz sucks? There is, ah, uh, oh, .... well, maybe you can go to bed early. Your chance to sleep out. And for 'Oberdoppelriesenmist': www.berndi-das-brot.de :-D dirk

The distances are short* [ ] No exact reason, it just seems to be a nice place to be [ ] Want to enter an ICE 3** [ ] Want to understand the evil jokes about Saarland*** * I consider Hannover-Mainz as 'far enough, but better than Hamburg-Munich'. Thinking globally, that distance is nothing compared to Moscow-Brasilia. ** Go to Shanghai, there is a Transrapid :) *** I don't get them myself, but all my co-workers from Mainz make fun of Saarland. Don't know why.

Did you ever try an earlier connection train? Assuming there's one train per hour, and usually it departs 30 minutes late and arrives 50 minutes late, leaving one hour earlier could help... no, forget it. That seems too easy, it cannot work. DiWa wrote: maybe you can go to bed early Good idea. I have never seen a tired person in Mainz. That may be because all of them go to bed early...
